PPOT Weight Loss Challenge for 2010

 12 week challenge!

Everyone enters each of the 4 categories automatically:

1. Most weight lost in pounds.
2. Most weight lost in percent of starting body weight.
3. Most BMI reduction points (i.e. you go from a BMI of 27 to 24, that is 3 points).
4. Percent of weight loss goal achieved (be serious and have a challenging goal!).

Post your New Year starting data between Jan. 1st, and Jan. 4th by midnight Pacific Time. I realize that early birds will get a head start but I want to make sure we can catch everyone that returns from the holidays and those guys who only read and post during work hours (!).

Starting data needed (if you want to compete in all categories)

Screen name.
Starting weight in pounds.
Body height in feet/inches (required for BMI competition)
Weight loss goal in pounds.

Post your data every two weeks by Monday night midnight. I will compile the data and announce rankings every two weeks. Final weigh in is on Monday March 29 before midnight Pacific Time.

Bonus points for body and scale and other pictures for documentation, even if the starting ones are kind of gross.

And last but not least, I will reserve the right to continue with a "keeping the weight off" competition after March 29, where we assure no yoyos by continuing to weigh in. Also expect a holiday competition next year to see who puts on the least over the holidays.

Strongly encouraged! Especially if you are female and only need to lose a couple of pounds. ;)

Wow - strong participation. I said we need your weight on Jan. 1st to Jan 4th, so you don't get a head start. But since this is the honor system and a long term weight loss plan anyway, I assume you aren't hitting the treadmill and weightloss shakes today already just to get ahead by one day ...

I know I am going for bbq tonight. :D

Ok - I got the spreadsheet fired up. Here how BMI is calculated:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1262286607.jpg
Free BMI Calculator - BMI Calculation

BMI does not fully capture the shape you are in. If you are very muscular, you will show overweight or even obese on you BMI. I assume that many of us however have not built a lot of muscle typing on PPOT and wrenching on our Porsches. Pictures may prove me wrong!?

I am getting busy here with New Years, if you don't read from me, this does not mean I abandoned the thread. I'll be back on next year to serve all the beginning stats. Everyone dig in one last time before it is weight loss challenge time!

Cheers,

George

I'll be able to give my body fat as the scale I have calculates it. (you guys be gentle!).
Since the BMI doesn't really tell the tale as you've stated, what about inches around the belly? Measure right around the belly button. It actually is a very good measurement for losing fat.
And don't worry about me getting an early start, just had my left knee scoped yesterday :(

Westy 12-31-2009 02:18 PM

I agree with the BMI thing, but I'm in,,,bad heart and all.

53
6"3"
253 this morning. Also doing this with wifes fat friends from work. My goal is 200lbs. Been there before, and hate my guts (literally) for putting it all back on. Bye-bye beeeeeeeer.
