Learn me about WASR-10
What can you tell me about these? What should I expect to pay?

Classic Arms Inc. has one for $300
Cheap, fun to shoot spoons. Dont expect great accuracy or a nice trigger. |

Good advice.
I picked up a SKS before the AK and really like the SKS. Again, cheap, but decent accuracy fun to shoot. |

Lancasters are almost 3x that price. But they sure are nice.

If I remember correctly the orginal WASR's came out in the bad old days when they couldn't import those types with hi-cap mags. So that model came out with a single stack 10 rounder that wouldn't interchange with the typical AK mag. When the ban expired no one wanted to buy them in that configuration so they modified them to take the regular AK mag, but wasn't totally sucessful. One of the faults is it lacks the 'dimple' on each side of the receiver that hold the magazine tighter to the gun.
I would discount one $50-100 over the other type. Jim

The thing that caught my attention was he was looking to trade for a G lock 19 and I may have one of those...
![]() Looks like I'd need him to put in some cash, and I'm not sure that's going to happen. So I started thinking (bad idea) that if I could get something fun to shoot I would be willing to part with the '19. I also thought about selling the '19 and putting $$'s towards an AR too... So many options...

Anyone on a shoestring budget who wants a "zombie gun" should get one of these.
The company founder calls it "The cadillac of poop." ![]() Hi Point 995 9mm Carbine I bought my godson one. It fires EVERYTHING. Hollowpoints, truncated cones, FMJ, flat tips...everything. I've never seen it jam once. All that for about $200!!! It's considerably more accurate than any AK i've ever fired, at least out to about 50 meters. You can get 15rd mags for it from USA. They need to be modified to work right(the mags), but once you bend the lips to the right shape, they do work fine. Here is a pic of my God son's 995 next to my CAR (before i modded it) and my HK P7, for scale... ![]() |

somebody owes me a keyboard
![]() I don't know nothin' about guns, but I sure do like the gun threads on this board (sorry, spoon threads) (edit - another great thing about spoon threads, you guys never get all indignant about the relative merit of such and such a weapon - unfailingly polite, weird!)

I would never pay over about $300.00 for any AK. I remember when you could get the pieces of crap for under $200 bucks. |

This is great information, thanks.
If I'm going to spend $600, I'm going to get one of the bargain basement AR-15's.

The days of $300 AKs are not over, but close to it. Most I see listed for at least $500 these days.

You should be able to get a nice used AR or really nice used Mini-14 for less than $600, or one of those blem guns that Leeland started a thread about last week. But for anyone on a budge of 300 or less, the Hi Point 995 is by far the best bang for the buck on the market today IMO. Very compact(smaller than my CAR even with the stock fully collapsed), highly reliable, and plenty accurate. The fact that it will fire any 9mm round on the market without jamming makes it a very versatile weapon. You could even easily take deer sized game with this weapon in a pinch if you had to. My godson loves his, absolutely loves it. There is a $70.00 aftermarket stock for it that makes it look just like a top dollar Beretta Storm SMG. You could have this exact weapon, including optics, for under $400.00 Last edited by m21sniper; 01-05-2010 at 01:08 PM.. |
