You ever rent a satellite phone
For the spouses' peace of mind on the 3 week Australia motorbike trip...
I believe I saw some shops that would rent them to you and deliver the phone to you, but wondering if you've ever actually rented and used one, how good they are, etc. Thanks

I used to work for a company that deployed them to oil rigs. They work ok. They aren't a cell phone. They are expensive. I'd think that it should be ok to carry for emergencies.

I rent one whenever I am in AK.. They work great, are expensive.. Also check the various options vs where you'll be. Different services use different satellites so coverage varies..
Great insurance policy IMHO...
