Auburn Vs. Oregon...who do you pick?
Vote your heart or vote your logic...

The Gamecocks could always pull it off. They're only 34...
I mean 35 points behind.

Auburn, they have a much more reliable system. Newton will be hard to stop in a frenetic setting where everyone over-pursues/commits. Remember Vince Young?

Auburn will win but if there is any justice (and there isn't) eventually the season and win will be stripped from them because of cam newton (a la Reggie bush).

If Auburn wins, I won't be shedding any tears for my least favorite college team...the U of Nike.

I'll root for Oregon, but I think Auburn will win it. O's defense isn't going to be able to hold Auburn, and while Oregon will put up a bunch of points, I don't think they'll get the 45-50 they've been getting most games. I think Oregon has also had the softer schedule. Auburn is just about as battle tested as any team has been for the BCS championship game. |

How can "University of Nike" be a legitimate slam? A local private corporate benefactor is a GREAT thing. Look at Stanford's donor list sometime. And every single campus at the University of California receives huge private donations.

I vote Auburn . . . but that's from someone who's just returned home from the SEC Championship . . .

entertaining the idea

I opted for Auburn since they played a tougher schedule and BCS bound UConn wasn't an option. This will be a great athletic and uptempo game to watch.

Paul is evidently unaware that OSU wears Nike uniforms too. Their shiny orange fairy shoes did not save them today.

Randy, If you recall, I posted earlier that the chances of the Beavers winning to day were slim to none.
Nike? Is there a college team NOT using their stuff? That's kind of like expecting to find Chinese made goods in a Wal-Mart. It is what it is... But NIKE (Phil Knight) does far more than just donate to the U of O...he is the defacto owner of all the sports teams there. What Phil wants, Phil gets. That, and the arrogance of the entire thing? GO AUBURN!

The stanford and UC teams don't wear different stoopid looking uniforms supplied by nike to every game.

It's my understanding that Oregon has a prestigious marketing department and this is one of their babies(the uniform changes). In the vein of any press is good press, it's been a huge success.

That's why it's unusual for them to have a really good team. That's also why I didn't go there. That and the fact that I didn't have any real athletic ability ![]() and the UC teams are public universities, like UCLA or UC Irvine etc. USC is a private school. For some reason we have two different California funded university programs, California state universities and also University of California schools (like University of cal in bezerkely). My daughter just got accepted to Fresno state (cal state fresno), she still has a few more apps out there so not sure if she'll go there or not but it looks like a strong possibility. Too bad she's not an illegal alien ........ Last edited by sammyg2; 12-05-2010 at 10:40 AM.. |

I would root for Stanford for just the reason sammy gives - there is some locality and prior history involved tho, so I usually root for UO, OSU & WSU - my undergrad. school did have a football team but they were smaller than my HS team (!)
Calif. has 3 tiers for post-2o ed. UC at top (the research universities); CSU = 4 yr. schools, some with various MS or MA degrees & very heavy teaching loads on the faculty but they often do some research - Humboldt, a CSU school, is quite good in wildlife biology; the 3rd tier is the community college system actually Oregon has a 3 tiered system also, as do many states (S. Ill. etc. any state school with a direction in it...), but the Calif. system is more highly developed and/or stratified |
