Well thanks everyone, I agree that most prior-enlisted folks make the best officers. In fact, I told my buddy (former-buddy) that I had planned to put in an OCS packet as soon as I finish my masters next fall. His reply was, "you're 27 right?, you should be an O-3 by now why would you want to go to officer school now?" Anyway I just shrugged it off, like I shrugged the weekend off. Here's to a better next weekend

Is there a chance he was "out of control" and BSting because he was too happy to see an old friend?

Age is not an issue, audiman. I did a tour as a detailer in Millington so if you want any help or gouge just PM me.

And, as Snapper wrote, thanks for your service.

As an aside, a good friend of mine made Chief last year. I got to go to his initiation. What a sterling event.

As an aside to an aside, my Father's side of the family were all Army Officers. My Mother's side a mix of Os and Es in the Navy: Chiefs when there wasn't Senior and Master Chief ratings. One Warrant after Pearl Harbor. Funny, tough, no nonsense dudes.

With one exception, they were all at my commissioning in 1983 in Pensacola. They were all WWII vets, ships shot out from under them, the whole nine yards.

After they drank my buds and I under the table, they pulled me aside and told me if I was ever "one of those officers" that they would pillage my village.

They were serious.

"Shut up and pay attention".

"You come last".

"Never BS, never lie".

"Treat them like the men they are".

The coolest bunch of crotchety f'ers I've known. God, the look in their eyes stays with me still.

I doubt it, he's not a very humorous guy.. just honest and interesting to be around. He's very intelligent, but somewhat lacking common sense and insecure I think. Also, I think he would have stopped when he saw my wife and myself not laughing. I'm a very laid back guy, and I enjoy a good laugh...but this was just insulting, there was nothing funny about it. But as they say this time of year, let bygones be bygones. I have no hard feelings, just hate to lose a friend....

Almost everybody gets a swelled head when they first get authority of that sort. Most get over it.
