Duracoated a spoon
I used the one time sprayer they sell and am pretty pleased with the results
![]() Here's the actual gun: ![]() ![]() ![]() It's a Colt Combat Commander Series 80 that I picked up pretty well used for dirt cheap. It was two tone with a ton of wear marks, a crappy looking hogue rubber grip and had a serious FTE issue along with a front sight that liked to wander out of the dovetail. A mix of Ed Brown and Wilson parts. several hours of tinkering and a little paint and it eats any ammo I put through it and doesn't look half bad either. |

Looks good. How did you prep the metal?

I used powder blast to prep the metal and 800 grit paper on a few rough spots on the slide. Overall, the Duracoat was pretty easy to work with.

I saw a 1903 Colt hammer .38 at a gun show the other day that they had tries to cover up a crappy finish...didn't work. It's like painting a car, paint will not cover up bad body work. I'm sure it fill scratches but nothing real deep.

Duracoat makes a product, durafill, that is supposed to fill in more-than-minor imperfections. The duracoat filled some very minor scratches, but the stuff is really thin to keep you from having to refit things. I did 2 coats about 8 hours apart. Being a carry piece and not something I intend to resell, I wasn't terribly worried about the scratches. That poor little gun has had a rough life, I purchased it off a blackwater contractor whom had carried it for about 3 years over there.

Looks nice. Will it chip or peel? Will it get rubbed off from sliding in/out of a holster? Might have to look into that stuff someday if it is extremely durable. Who sells it?

It's not supposed to chip, peel, etc. Its epoxy hardened or some *****. I have a kel tec that was done and it has held up incredibly. Instructions say 24 hours to re assembly and light usage with full cure in 3 weeks. Its sold by lauer custom weaponry, but I think duracoat.com is the website.

They have dozens of colors from flat tactical colors to glossy colors and neon colors. They also sell kits for various camo patterns. The stuff I bought is Warrior Dark Earth and in the smallest amount, 4 oz, I still had ~2/3 of the bottle left. It came to about $50 shipped with the sprayer and pretty good instructions.
I think I may do my mossy 500 and a couple of knives with the remaining stuff. Also, it adheres to virtually anything, wood, plastic, glass, metal....... |
