Think it can do 165 mph?
|
well, the engine is "upgraded"
|
A 3 liter SC engine with carbs will probably produce 170-180 hp. Not enough juice for that car to reach 165.
|
Maybe if you dropped it out of an airplane.
|
LOL! Here we go again.
|
Aw, hell! Yup! One needs to have been around here in OT for a good while to know how this thread is going to end up.

It seems some of us recall the seller...;)those who don't, do a search. :D
|
Just remember, that '71 is faster than your 'Stang.
Was it $100 or $1,000 he put up to challenge all doubters? A lap around Willow Springs I think it was. Whatever... The cat always comes back. :D BTW: wasn't that car a '73? Someone else questions the same on the ebay ad. |
Oh yeah...I'm sure it's faster than any Mustang...just ask the seller.

Depends on if the top was on or off...according to the earlier thread, Targas have unique aerodynamics...they really go faster with the top off. |

Nice car and the price is a lot more reasonable than most other earlies I've seen - still a little high for a "frankenPorsche" with non-original engine though.
Won't do 165. Not that it matters. I don't think anyone buys an early 911 because of how fast it is. They buy it for class and collectability and driving experience. Bet anything that's a car dealer. They're all exaggerating/lying scum, IMHO. |
A lot of things go faster when the top's off.
:) :) :) |

But it won't. Maybe 140. Tops. Or without tops, unless the driver has an awesome tattoo. Then it's go way faster. For the record: Up until recently, My SC had way, way more than 180 hp. Closer to 275. It would also pull hard until the valves floated if I let it. It would not do 165 mph, no way. it was GEARED TOO LOW! Even though it revved forever and had the power to pull the gears, it wouldn't go that high. Now that e-bay car has a stock 3 liter engine with stock CIS so it'd be lucky to pull hard past 5800 rpm. So unless they re-geared that transaxle with some special 917 gears or something, it won't pull 140 mph. At top speed, weight has nothing to do with anything. It's all about wind resistance and gear ratio and engine usable rpm range. So there! |
BTW my best friend's sister and brother-in-law have an old Porsche in their garage that hasn't moved in a really long time. My friend told me about it years ago but he said he thought it was a 912 so I didn't pay any attention to it.
Well, I just found out it's a 67 911S targa. All original except some fool painted it eggplant (aubergine). Original color was green. Reportedly it will start and run but the tires are flat. I asked about rust and she said there are a few rust bubbles on the paint but that's all she knows about. She said there wasn't any rust on the floors. I'd have to check that for myself ;) Evidently the guy bought it a long, long time ago and never got around to fixing a few minor things so it just sat under the cover. It's in Riverside .............. |
