I thought it was pretty good.

Glad to see Guy Ritchie back, always thought he had great talent.

Robert Downey and Jude Law do a good job as well. Good plot \ well written also. The bad guy could have been more "evil looking".

I was not sure if it was the way the movie was recorded or just the theatre I went to see it, but the sound was tough to hear at times.

Anyone else go to see it?

I saw it and liked it a lot too. It was of course greatly enhanced by the fact that me and my date were the only two people in the theater (late night showing).

I certainly enjoyed myself. :D

I saw it with my son. Great movie.

I especially liked the "planning" of an assault just before it happened.

I liked the fight at the ship yard which resulted in a ship being accidental launched.
Also some of the effects were unique and new. The explosion scene was really well done.

Off-duty cop injured in shoot-out at theater near Penn's campus

Forget the big screens - the real action at the Bridge movie theater last night was in the busy lobby, where an off-duty Harrisburg cop traded gunfire with a masked robber, police said.

The frightening tale began to unfold in University City shortly before 7 p.m., when about a dozen people were waiting in line to buy tickets for "Sherlock Holmes" and "The Book of Eli."

In marched the thief, a 5-foot-8 black man in a dark hooded sweatshirt, who hid the lower half of his face behind a mask, police said.

The crook pulled out a handgun and robbed Bridge employees who were manning the box office, said Philadelphia police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Within seconds, an off-duty state Capitol policeman yelled out, "Freeze! Police!" a police source said.

The startled robber, who was about 10 feet from the cop, opened fire, wounding the officer once in the left shoulder.

Small said the officer returned fire, but it was unclear if he wounded the masked gunman, who fled on foot.

A 22-year-old Drexel student who had been waiting in line for tickets was also shot. Small said that man, whose name was not released, was hit once in the left leg.

Small said both the 42-year-old cop and the bystander were listed in stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

About an hour after the shoot-out, Crime Scene Unit investigators examined blood stains outside the Bridge, on Walnut Street near 40th.

Small said lab tests would determine if the blood was that of the masked robber.

All six of the Bridge's theatres were playing movies and packed with patrons when the shooting occurred, Small noted.

A handful of people who emerged from the theater afterward appeared dazed from the ordeal.

"There were a lot of bullets in the lobby," said Emma Kosowsky, who was inside the Bridge when shots rang out.

"It was surreal. I didn't realize what was happening."

Claire Coots said she was in a small media room adjacent to the lobby, watching previews with about eight others, "When all of a sudden I heard shouting. I looked out and saw the spark of the gun."

Coots said she dived under some nearby seats for protection.

"I always go there. Now I'll have to find another movie theater to go to," she said.

At the Fresh Grocer store across the street from the Bridge, Katherine Martin sold boxes of Girl Scouts cookies on a small table. She said she was unfazed by the shooting, but noted that many University of Pennsylvania students "seemed really upset. Especially the ones who don't live in the city."

One of the girls i'm dating teaches at Penn. Too bad she wasn't there, the cop would have had some backup. She carries an HK P7 9mm and is a crack shot- left or right handed! Oh, right...universities are "gun free" zones. :rolleyes:

I saw it and thought it was pretty good, not at all what I expected. They go way overboard on special effects in today's movies, IMO. Overall, a B

I also had a tough time understanding Downeys british accent.

I liked it. It was certainly a different take on Sherlock Holmes but it was very well done.

Is she stupid enough to start shooting in a crowded theatre lobby, like the off-duty cop? WTF was he thinking?? I hope that guy loses his badge and gets sued. What a dumb fuch... :rolleyes:

The robber opened fire first.

I saw it and was expecting lame slapstick comedy and thats what I got. Didn't like it but maybe I wasn't in the mood.

I enjoyed the back and forth banter between Watson and Holmes.

They (robbers) usually do when a cop yells, "Freeze, Police!"
Glad it wasn't worse than it was.

That "banter" is what carried the movie for me.
Saw it last night, late show, missed some of it due to sleep so I'll see it again when it hits our "Dollar" theatre. :D
What I did see I really liked.

I can't fault the cop in this instance. He probably could have just opened fire, given that he saw a guy with a mask and gun, but i don't fault him for trying to take the man in without gun play.

I wonder what Sherlock Holmes would have done...? :)

Exactly. A smarter cop would have monitored the situation, ready to shoot if absolutely necessary, but otherwise done nothing until the guy was outside. He handled it the worst way possible, he's damn lucky that several innocents were not killed. And this was not some unprecedented, once-in-a-lifetime scenario. Cops are trained very specifically in how to deal w/ armed robberies in progress with civilians present. I've seen them outside a bank w/ shotguns several times when false alarms went off, they do not go inside or reveal their presence.

This guy should be fired. He's no hero, he's an idiot. In fact, this is a great argument for the anti-concealed carry crowd, ie. that someone w/ a gun on them would handle this exact situation in this exact (wrong) way and get a bunch of people shot. Idiot.

That would have been just as stupid. Come on, you're a gun expert, right? Where, pray tell, do you think that all of the rounds that missed the guy or went through him would end up? Being that this was a crowded theatre lobby? :rolleyes:

And i disagree with your assertion. Because a CCW holder would just shoot the guy without any warning at all, ending the situation right then and there. I mean c'mon, you see a guy with a mask and gun, there is not really much mystery as to what's going on. It's highly, highly, highly unlikely that it's anything but an armed robbery in progress.

Again, for all we know, this guy was going to open fire anyway. The man was not afraid to open fire on the police, i'd say there's a heck of a chance he'd have popped one of his victims just to get his jollies off.

The only person i blame in this incident is the criminal, though i am sure in hindsight the cop wishes he'd just shot first. Sherlock Holmes would have. ;)

If the cop took careful aim from behind and shot the guy in the head with one shot i don't think that there would be any stray bullets. The range involved here was a matter of feet, and the cop had the initiative and a distracted target.

In the cops shoes i would have shot without warning. But i'm not a cop.

You can second guess him giving the audio warning, for sure. But ultimately, living in this city and knowing how freakin' nuts the criminals are here, i have no problem with the cop not waiting to see if the guy was going to just start executing people.

For all we know, he was not. In fact, it would be unusual, (but not unheard of), for him to start shooting during a robbery w/ no resistance. It would be almost a guaranteed certainty that the off-duty cop's actions would spark a shoot-out in a crowded theatre lobby which of course it did. That is generally considered to be the least desirable outcome when there is a robbery going on in a crowded public place.

Once again, this is not some exotic scenario. It's all too common. In a bank where there are only a few civilians and they are all bank employees, the least desirable place to engage the robber(s) is inside of the bank. In a crowded theatre lobby w/ hundreds of possibly unaware people coming and going who would not even have the chance to duck? Fking criminally stupid. You do not create the worst possible scenario because "for all we know..." :rolleyes:

He was an idiot and you're dead wrong. Your other assertion assumes that someone w/ a gun in this hyper-kinetic situation could tip-toe up behind the guy and cap him in the head. It just defies the logic and reality of actual gun-play situations. Asinine reasoning...

Who said anything about tip toeing up behind anyone? Guns are ranged weapons. The range involved in that lobby is small. Any shot would have been 7 yards or less (and probably half of that figure), and the cop had the initiative. A single well aimed shot to the head, problem solved.

Screaming "Freeze, police!" was arguably stupid, but no more stupid than just waiting for some guy to open fire on a crowd of people because you didn't act. There are just far too many massacres nowadays for a cop to ever assume that a guy with a gun and mask won't open fire at even the slightest provocation. I am not of the opinion that cops should let armed robberies transpire as they sit idly by.
