I guess I'm old, when did they start making them out of plastic?

I have no idea, we did not have them in France.

Wow - no tinker toys? Did you have Legos?

All we had was dead racoons and a stick to play Davy Crockett...Just kidding. Yes Lego, and Meccano too, but I had never seen tinker toys like that.

Wow, I had a set of the wooden ones; I remember my father and I used to build very large, precariously-balanced structures. He was trained as an architect but spent his life as a machinist, which was probably a good thing for public safety. :D

Are the plastic ones BPA-free? ;) :D

My son (4 years old) is a complete LEGO freak like his old man. We'll just sit on the floor for hours building various winged and/or wheeled contraptions. My wife is never really sure if I bring home new LEGO kits for him or for me. :D

I think the first plastic ones came out in the 80s. For a while all you could get was plastic. My son always preferred my old ones to his new plastic ones. I agree, the plastic just doesn't feel right. They started making a wood version a few years ago, so now you can get either.
