Apple's big announcement tomorrow
 

It's gonna be a 10" iTablet. Touchscreen. That's my take. I haven't seen it yet but I want one. If they simply unveil a new iPhone, I'll be bummed. :cool:

...it's not as if tablets are something new.

I'm not making any predictions on what AAPL shows. They often surprise.

But, just a quick thought on "tablets". Yes, there have been PC tablets for several years. I've owned two, a Compaq and an IBM. They required stylus input when in tablet mode, so the on-screen KB was barely usable (peck peck peck), you had to use handwriting recognition which didn't work great, and gesture commands were hard to remember (let's see, is that "up then left" - hey, why did my document just get deleted?). A touchscreen interface like the iPhone would make tablets much more usable.

Yep. Touchscreen tablet, with "legal" iPhone tethering.

mp3 players were not new before iPods.

Cell phones were not new before iPhones.

Downloadable music was not new before iTunes store.

Retail computer stores were not new before Apple Stores.

Animated movies were not new before Pixar.

Hate Apple/Jobs all you want.

The fact remains that they set a higher bar and even if you never buy a single one of their products you are still benefiting from that benchmark.

Iphones not exclusive to AT&T service would be a real nice thing to announce!

I don't hate Apple/Jobs . .not in the least. What I do find annoying are those claims of "Big Announcement" ....really; this is Big?

As far as tablets go, I believe they are great devices. I've had a few over the years. My (old) Samsung Q1U needs no stylus, it has an LED backlit display, and does an excellent job of handwriting recognition (thanks Microsoft ---just to piss-off the true haters here). Oh, I do also have an Apple blutooth keyboard for it as well. But, as nice as that keyboard is, I just don't use it much.

No, they just reset the bar again. Apple is not solely responsible for all innovation. They have great (costly) packaging; which many rightfully appreciate. But again, they are just part of the competition machine. And, because of their standard, are usually NOT the first with new technology.

Strong signs that that will be part of the announcement.

How you guys get excited over this stuff is beyond me... just because Apple puts it out does not make it special.

I'd rather spend an hour alone with an Apple iTablet than a mail-order Russian chick.

i've worked on wacom cintiq tablets a few times. when apple gets to that level i'll be interested.

I had a Compaq touchscreen tablet in 1995.
