I can see it working for browsing only which a lot of people do. But I think the clunky screen based text input will get real old real fast even for face booking house wives that need to update their staus as they cook eggs for the kids :)

Also, is it true that it can only run one app at a time? That seems really odd, no music in the background? No browsing your pics while you're on Facebook for those housewives? Ouch.

I love the idea of a great/simplebrowsing tool, I just think this one needs some real work. My netbook works real well for that but the 10" screen is less than optimal....I can't see how this 10" screen will be any better.

When they come out I suggest you go to an Apple store and try one out, you know, just for the hell of it, thats what i did in 2007 with the iphone( what's that noise, sounds like a fishing reel) what happened.... what? I still have it & am quite amused at the copycats. Apple raised the bar with that product. The finished Ipad won't be out for 60 days that seems like a lot of time to me, I wonder why so long

n'no, you're looking at the wrong side! ...this device is for those fanboys who will flip it over and trance over the Apple logo. ...for only $500!

I doubt any other companies have put out such polarizing products as Porsche (Cayenne/Panamera) and Apple -- iPad.

Like the iPhone, there will be uses and abilities that develop from before the product launch (March) and onward. It was just announced that Skype will be available on the iPad, for instance. Many publishers have embraced iPad content development, and many app developers will take advantage of the new real estate available.

For perspective, go back to 2001 and look at the way the computer world received the news of the iPod. It was largely dismissed as pointless. And now, 75 million of them have been sold.

I was involved with Apple in 1977 -- my team developed the logo. We introduced the Apple II. It was greeted with sneers at the West Coast Computer Faire. 'Wrong processor.' 'Would make an okay video terminal for my IMSAI.' 'Apple won't last a year.' Apple has always contended with naysayers, and today is looking at a $50 billion sales year. I advise folks not to leap to the conclusion that they've seen all the iPad is or will be.

I agree

Who is saying that Apple doesn't have sales?

No doubt you want Apple stock and product to be well received, but on this. ... ThUD.

The feature set just isn't there. Not to mention the ergonomics SUCK!

I mean really, tell me what's NEW about this product.

island911 01-30-2010 11:08 AM

I'll just add, that this THUD is the mark of complacent product development team. No doubt quite a few Apple engineers and designers are more focused on their new houses, Lamborghini's ... than focused on product. We all know Steve Jobs certainly has been fighting for his life. --impressive btw. But that also had to be a MAJOR distraction for the internal team.
