Oh and chrome... You can find all you need to know with a quick search.... I use it quite a bit... Best part of it... Its FREE lets see apple give anything away....

Enzo, take a breath buddy.

I actually own 5 Macs. Two iMacs in my office, one laptop each for the adults, and a Mini plugged into the TV in the living room. All in all things have worked out pretty well with them--I got tired of futzing with Windoze and was bored with tinkering with Linux to get it set up the way I wanted.

The 10.6 upgrade was horrid, I was ready to reblast everything back to 10.5 and give Apple the finger, but they came out with the necessary patches at the last moment.

I wouldn't say I enjoy using my Mac(s). They just cause me less indigestion than any Windoze box.

as far as google chrome is concerned there is no customer service & it is inferior to apple, no way in hell would I buy that.
Uh, wow. Nice to see you're approaching your tech purchases with an open mind and some deep research into the subject! LOL

enzo1 01-27-2010 01:29 PM

If u buy a product with google chrome on it and u have a problem, who's going to fix it. Is it the product it's running on or is it google's problem! At Apple it's all in house especially now that their making their own processors. .... actually IMHO we have gotten something for free.. innovation ,,, and yes i'm excited

porsche4life 01-27-2010 01:31 PM

No you pay out the ass for that "innovation" b/c the hardware isn't any better.....

If you get something with google chrome on it you Google your problem and fix it.... Besides... Chrome is just a web browser at the moment....

Apple has outstanding tech support - for one thing.

I am not too impressed by the iPad. I'd stick one up on the dash of a 4x4 if it ran a good GPS & mapping program and IF it was $50. Otherwise I want full notebook abilities & 1/5 Tbyte of storage. I expect to get that, but not for a while.

A pad computer with a detachable iKeyboard would be a nice innovation. The iKeyboard is coming and was announced.

I suspect they will sell some of these and it will do better than the Newton or the cube...

Eventually, they will expand their beachhead. Never make the mistake of seeing 3 guys on the beach with binoculars and thinking that just b/c they went back for a swim you are safe from a bigger invasion...

Not yet, still using Intel processors, and I highly doubt the initial cpu's will be priced competitively to a comparable intel or amd, you will probably be getting less performance for more buck just for that fancy apple sticker.

I'm by no means anti-apple I just still can't see how they justify selling an inferior machine for 2,3,4,5 hundred more because it says apple when you can just s easily run a hackintosh on an intel based machine if you really want to run Os-x. That and the amount of college douche-baggery that occurs because one owns a mac is just something that has turned me off of mac's for time to come. Yes I have used them (I work in It), yes I have (tried) to support them on occasion and I'm just never impressed enough to actually want to go spent so much extra for the "prestige".

My current computer which I built for $380 total (some used parts from craigslist :D I can document parts and cost if you don't believe me) would trounce that $1,700 imac (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/imac?mco=OTY2ODI4Mw) and would come close to that $1900 in terms of performance. The kicker is if I want to upgrade it I can, easily. It's not confined in a tiny case, I have room to expand if need be but I digress if you like macs good for you if you like pcs good for you too.

Uh....what?

It's an ARM-based CPU from PA Semi, who Apple purchased.

do you know how much u pay for Google,it's like air, you can't see it but its there!@ Apple IMHO the hardware is better, the os is better, the overall experience is better for ME & I am willing to pay for that, but the innovation that Steve Jobs has come up with out of his head & great engineers are at a cost other companies can only dream about!

BlueSkyJaunte 01-27-2010 01:53 PM

The Froth is strong with this one.

Sentances. They aren't just for novels.

I admire guys who can get so passionate about...electronics.

1) Does it turn on?
2) Does it do what I want it to?
3) Does it print?
4) Does it get on the internet?

That's all I need. Or so it seems these days.

enzo1 01-27-2010 03:04 PM

widebody911 I agree , I need to tone it down, I'm sorry if I've hurt anyones feelings, didn't mean to. Yes i'm passionate about it... but there's a right way to display that and a wrong way, kinda like politics I guess, anyway we are bound together by our passion of old porsches and I need to remember that!LOL

porsche4life 01-27-2010 03:08 PM

Tell me what "hardware" other than the phone Google's name is on. Plz.... Oh and how much google software the home user has to pay for....

enzo1 01-27-2010 03:27 PM

porsche4life I just realized that I am coming from a completely different aspect than u are. I bought a Dell for 4200$ 10-12 years ago& it fell apart! then I boght another one for about 3300 & it fell apart! They only lasted 4 years. Computers have come down a lot in price since then & they are built a lot better. If I go & spend 500$ on a ipad , I can't believe I can get that much technology for that price. You know how to build your own, thats great but for guys like me its walk in and buy. Google gets their money from clicks, they are trying to branch out into other things but its the advertising money that pays for everything

porsche4life 01-27-2010 03:29 PM

I didn't Build my dell... I got online... Spec'd it out and ordered it... In 2 days I had my new laptop in my lap and ready to roll...

enzo1 01-27-2010 03:48 PM

Oh sorry, misunderstanding, what did it end up costing you, and how do you keep viruses at bay

Super_Dave_D 01-27-2010 03:53 PM

What's a virus??

enzo1 01-27-2010 04:09 PM

exactly!

porsche4life 01-27-2010 04:25 PM

Came in just under 600... I run AVG free.... Click on every link I see and never a problem...
