My introduction was via "Catcher in the Rye". I was 14 and it was banned in my community. I asked my Dad why. His response was: "I don't know" then he fished around in his pile of books, handed me the paper back and told me to read and let him know.

Catcher in the Rye was very funny I remember. The main character Holden Caulfield? captured teenage angst beautifully. There's bit of sex in it I think,so that's the reason for the controversy.

My how life changes...I remember getting a dog-eared copy of the red paperback of Catcher in the Rye when I was 13. I was ready for the scandalous chapters inside.
Perfect coming of age novel. Phoebe was my favorite character. JD had the long run...good. RIP.
