WWII in HD on The History Channel tonight
Seems like this should be pretty cool.
Premiers tonight The only people to see the war like this were the ones who lived it. Until now? Seventy years in the making. Three thousand hours of color footage no one knew existed. The first documentary to show World War II from the perspective of both sides in full, immersive HD color, the world premiere HISTORY series WWII in HD uses the diaries of soldiers who fought in the war?s biggest battles to create a personal, introspective and detailed look at life on and off the front lines. Though it was illegal for U.S. soldiers to carry diaries, many hid them away in their packs and recorded their experiences in detail. Now, through the use of these diaries and other source documents, as well as HD color and on-location shooting around the world, WWII in HD transforms their journey into a tangible piece of history. Culled from rare color archival footage from an exhaustive worldwide search and converted to HD with meticulous technique, WWII in HD provides a picture of World War II as it has never been seen before.

You won't regret it Joe. I rarely watch TV, but I won't be missing a single episode. Even my wife is engrossed, and she's not into WWII history like I am. Incredible footage and stories.

Have really been enjoying watching it... at times sitting on the couch alone with tears in my eyes... Thinking about my father who did three combat tours in the Pacific theatre along with all the other dedicated souls that were willing/and did give all.... wish I could salute each and every one of them.... >S!<

I have only seen bits and pieces so far... looks great.
I think some of it may be "colorized" B&W footage, though. I saw some Pacific Theater gun camera footage tonight that I think I have seen before in B&W included in other WWII documentaries... one of the good guys was trailing a Zero fairly low over the water, hit it, and it rose a bit, then rolled and went in and exploded. I'm pretty sure I've seen that sequence before in B&W.

Is this the sum total of what you people have to say? What do you think about the true grit and determination of the men who fought in that war? How does that compare to the American people of today and the political leadership of this nation? Do you think they would allow what we have to be sold so cheaply? Do you think they would allow illegal aliens to cross our borders at will to share what they fought and bled for? Do ou think they would squander the wealth they they scrimped and saved for let alone bled for? Watch this program and then listen to BO and ihis ilk talk about America and Freedom, and then tell me how much of those mens sacrafice BO and the Liberals embody with their progressive ideals and PC notions?
When you have to earn your freedom and your wealth with your sweat and blood you don't give it up easy. You become very pragmatic, as you know it is tough to build a nation. But when it has been handed to you it is easy to give away, because you don't understand the swear abd blood it took to achieve what you have in your hands. The later is where the vast majority of Americans are at today. Watching this program gives you a taste of what it took to achieve the greatness that America achieved and is now in the process of destroying.

I've watched a couple of episodes in the last few days. It's been interesting. I'd like to see the whole set.

They are selling the set, just watch one of the broadcasts and it gives a number, or keep an eye on Ebay as they usually show up there.

The set is available on the History channel website. Also available on BluRay. I think it is $30, I'm going to buy it as a Christmas gift for my father in law who doesn't get the History Channel.
One interesting interview comment was the question of whether or not the kids of the era were tough enough to persevere. The thought was that they were too soft and spoiled and would give up. Sounds familiar......

I don't know if i would have had what it takes to go through what they did. My Dad served in France and okinawa but he didn't talk about it ...ever.
you know what else touched me...the nurses. "We never cried in front of the boys...never in front of the boys". They had serious courage.
