Good Simon and Garfunkel songs?
So, for whatever reason, I remember hearing about S&G a lot when I was younger. The other day, I sampled a greatest hits CD to see what songs I recognized thinking that there would be a bunch. To my surprise, there was only a handful of songs that strike me as hits.
Scarborough Fair Cecilia Bridge Over Troubled Waters Mrs Robinson I thought that 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover and Slip Slidin' Away was S&G, but turns out that's just S. So, are there any other hits by these guys?

I have always thought Paul Simon was the brains of that duo.
In fact, he is (IMHO) one of the few songwriters to continue writing quality music later in life.

Not necessarily a hit, but I've always liked "April Come She Will". Simple song. Great melody.

Easily too many to good ones to list! "Hit" might be hard to define in the case of S&G? That's why I never cared for those "Greatest Hits" albums in general. I think it's more what a songs says to you.. especially in their early style.

Wonder what happened to them... they split and apparently just despise each other.
There was also Simon's 2 day marriage to Carrie Fisher... Great music, though. |

April Come She Will - comes to mind.
-great song + I used to really like hearing my wife sing it to my young children. That live in Central Park album is pretty damn good.

They're all good. I have dozens of them saved on my puter.
I do not care for anything Simon did after they split up except for kodachrome, most of his later crap was either too poppy and simple or too trendy (like the African drum kick he got on). That totally sucked and was an insult to his fans. If paul was the brains why did he totally come up empty later? Maybe he was the brains and Art was the soul. For the record, the boxer, bridge over troubled water and sounds of silence are my favorites but I also like homeward bound. Bridge over troubled water through good headphones still makes the hair on my neck stand up. Tell me this doesn't do it (live 1969): Music doesn't get any deeper or more beautiful than that IMO. The only other singer I can think of that put as much pure emotion into a song would be Karen Carpenter. I'm not an artsy-fartsy kinda guy, cold engineer type but S&G makes me all beatnick philosophical. Last edited by sammyg2; 01-28-2010 at 08:32 PM.. |

Sorry for the re-direct, couldn't help it. What a voice.
BTW for you young single guys, nothing will get you laid more than listening to this song with a young girl showing her that you are sensitive enough to like it. At least that's how it was 35 years ago ![]() Last edited by sammyg2; 01-28-2010 at 08:16 PM.. |

There will never be music like there was in the s&g era. Real musicians, real songwriting, real emotion, real talent.....Real.
Those two dudes were magical. |
