They're in every grocery/bakery here this time of year. If you get stuck, I'll ship you one. Or drop a little plastic baby Jesus in an envelope to ya

The State Of Michigan is closed, no King Cakes here! Its kind of a tradition, like driving 2 hours to Frankenmuth for a chicken dinner... and yes I must have the plastic baby Jesus...

At one time the person who found the baby was to be the queen of Mardis Gras celebration, could select a court and had to host the next king cake party. King Cakes (and the parties) are only served/celebrated between 12th night (Jan 6...12 days after xmas) until Fat Tuesday (Mardis Gras). Some folks have a king cake party each week from 12th night until Mardis Gras.

Jesus replaces the bean that was used for the reason BRPorsche said.

Anyone needing to order, these are superb...baked locally for a hardware store. I've attached a link to the store and a history of the King Cake below:

Tubbs - King Cakes

I may live in crap-hole Alabama but we've got an Italian buffet place called Muffaletta's that used Gambino's breads. Still do as far as I know. There's something special about those muffaletta rolls!
A little bite of heaven in the crap-hole!

Yep. Gambino's is still my reference for Muffy rolls and they also have the best po-boy loaves you can imagine.. There are not many that can acheive the crusty ouside with the chewy innards of a Gambinos-based po-boy. We have a few local po-boy shops that have them flown in just for that reason. Anything else "just ain't right".

Still standing by Tubbs as the best king cake..."Overstuffed", and not "dry" like most others.
