I remember when that case was reported in '88. Entirely plausible.
The Swedes did an interesting study in the 80's. Using laparoscopy, they collected samples of abdominal fluid in all four quadrants after semen was deposited in the patients vagina. Remember, the fallopian tubes are open conduits to the entire abdominal cavity. Conclusion: Five minutes after ejaculation, many thousands of sperm are found throughout the abdominal cavity. They are around the gall bladder, the stomach, the spleen, ... EVERYWHERE. From the diaphragm to the pelvic floor. Everywhere.

Agree, I have found that once I have made it past the unfriendly, acidic vagina that the cervix is a much more friendly place to be.
