Perhaps scam is the incorrect term in this case.
Some time ago there was a serious problem with Ford Crown Victoria's and gas tanks that would leak and explode in a collision. It was a very serious problem and many folks died as a result of this. NHTSB did get involved but it was pretty quiet compared to this Toyota fiasco and if you examine the problem it theoretically included all Crown Vics for a particular year. It also involved police vehicles and LEO fatalities. Toyota has problems, no doubt but is the government taking advantage of the situation and angling to damage Toyota's reputation to benefit US producers. Just seems fishy to me. My opinion, am I paranoid, perhaps but with government involvement anything is possible. |
So...some people on this thread are contending that when the government takes over an industry, it may game the rules to its advantage.
Good thing that hasn't happened. |

I don't have a dog in this hunt, just thinking out loud. I'm actually not happy with any of the auto producers and think they are all overpriced POS vehicles, especially the newer model years. I just washed my wife's 2009 Pilot today and found a small rust spot on the tailgate, that's pretty bad for a $30K vehicle just a hair over a year old. No telling what I will find in another year. |
