Snow in all 50 states
OKLAHOMA CITY — An Oklahoma forecaster is predicting an unusual weather phenomenon — snow on the ground in all 50 states at the same time.
Patrick Marsh, who works at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Severe Storms Laboratory, says a winter storm passing through the southern U.S. Thursday and early Friday is predicted to leave measureable snowfall in the Deep South, including parts of the Florida Panhandle. A winter storm warning is in effect in the region. Marsh says he's trying to collect photos of snow on the ground from all 50 states. He says he's unsure if such a weather phenomenon has ever occurred before.

Has it snowed on Hawaii's Mauna Kea yet this year?
edit: I just checked the web cam on the Mauna Kea and no snow, Mr. Marsh may have to settle for snow on the lower 48. Footnote: I skied the Mauna Kea in 1986

A weather forecasting service that my company subscribes to (Planalytics) said you have to go back 30 years to find snow in all 50 states at the same time. It also said between 1/3 & 1/2 of American's experienced snow in the past week.

Hello ,it said snow on the ground, Hawaii has big mountains...and they can get snow up there. Now the beaches of Hawaii getting snow would be more odd... And to another poster, I've noticed that, more and more news articles and politicians are referring to "climate change" now instead of "global warming".

When the surrounding air gets warmer, ice melts. When ice melts, it creates water. Water evaporates into the atmosphere, faster in higher temperatures.
All water, not just freshly melted water. When you have water in the atmosphere it returns to earth in the form of water or snow. This is 5th grade science. Whether it is man caused or not, that is what can be expected. As the planets temperature rises a few degrees these sorts of extreme patterns will be more frequent. There will be more snow, more rain, bigger hurricanes, etc. It will probably get hotter on the sumer side of the planet and colder and wetter on the winter side. |

. . in the 6th grade we learn that snow IS water.
![]() If ya make it to High school, you may learn that the evaporation of water is dependent on variable such as relative humidity, and exposed surface area of the water. And then, after you've learned a bit of science, you will know that when a politician spins a web of BS such as "As the planets temperature rises a few degrees these sorts of extreme patterns will be more frequent. There will be more snow, more rain, bigger hurricanes, etc." -- you can know enough to call it for what it is. ...rather than just swallowing, and regurgitating the line, like some stupid bird.

Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea on Hawaii are both almost 14,000 feet above sea level.
They both often have snow on them. |
