need tire advice P255/55R18

For my Land rover Discovery ii. 90% street 10% off road, fairly easy off road that is. What is the best in your experience?

Check the Tire Rack reviews. I always reference them prior to my purchases, they've never led me astray. Tire Rack is also a great company to buy tires from.

I'm a big fan of BFG Radial AT tires, I have a set on my Land Cruiser and have been very impressed. They're worn down to 25% or so and still aren't noisy or rough riding. They also wear like iron, 60k miles is pretty common. Other favorites from the Land Cruiser forums are Bridgestone Dueller Revo and the Goodyear AT tires with kevlar (Silent Armor?). If you need more of a mall cruiser tire, supposedly the Michelin LTX is very good (but expensive).

I was just reading that Land Rovers had the most customer complaints of any vehicle sold today.

Not.......TOYOTAS?!

By the way, how is that in any way relevant to the original question?

check WalMart they are selling a Bridgestone Dueller its similar to the revo but it comes in the size you posted about 160 per tire.
If it was me i would buy a set of 16 in rims and then fit the Bridgestone Revos, great in snow and quiet on the hiway, I had a set on my 04 Disco 245/75 16 fit well with no mods, its a skinnier tire than the 18 in. you have now but it does work very well in snow.\

Oh you have to buy 5 of them as well as 5 wheels if you go that route and little lift on the tire carrier and lower the bumper by loosening the bolts and letting it sag then tighten

I've seen reports that Wal-Mart tires are specific to Wal-Mart, they are essentially a lower quality product that allows WM to sell at a lower price. This was in regards to Goodyear, I'm not sure if it applies to Bridgestone or not. Locally our Firestone store is about the cheapest source anyway.

Consider the Continental Cross Contact LX if you're looking for a reasonably priced, good all-around tire with great tread life.

That size is common to Mercedes ML and Porsche Cayenne and VW Toureg so there are many many to choose from, you just have to pick which attributes are important to you. Ride? Tread wear? Quiet? Handling? Wet? Snow? Looks? Steering response? Off road?

We are running Yokohama Geolander AT 265/60/18. A bit taller (no rubbing with stock suspension) and fatter - so far 25K miles and they still are quiet and smooth. Excellent in rain and no complaints with minor off road treks. Looking at them now I guess another 10K miles are left in them. I highly recommend these tires. BFG AT/KO is also an excellent tire. It was shocking how much better our Disco ('03 DII) drove once we tossed the original GY rubber.

Another nod for the BFG AT/KO. My friend and I both have Nissan Xterras. I have the stock crappy rubber and he has the AT's. It is amazing the difference in traction in virtually any conditions, both on and off road.

Plus they have a nice aggressive look.

Right now I have Michelin Synchrone tires on it right now, they are a great tire but a little hefty on price. I really do not want to change the size. I agree with you David, the difference from the Goodyear to the Michelin tires was really worth the money, the Goodyear tires weren't even that old. I am retired now so I need to watch how much I spend this time. Matt, the BFG's are a little louder than Mrs Crusty would tolerate although I agree they are a really great tire, I used to get 50Kplus out of them on my Jeep and my F-150. Thanks Sniper, I have no complaints that are different than I have about any other car.
O.K. so far I will look at the Bridgestone Dueller Revo, the Continental Cross Contact LX, and the Yokohama Geolander. Two of the three listed were my personal choices anyway. I am buying them Thursday so I still have some time. Thank you everyone!
Regards,
Sandy

Make sure the Yokohama's you look at are the Geolander A/T-S. Right now they are $166/ea at tire rack. I believe I paid $140/ea locally from Evan Tire Center.

Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S
