Daytona 500 - potholes

Is it just me? or ..... seems lame to have the Daytona 500 stopped for a pothole. Is that what it's come to?

The whole race to the green is really odd? Seems as if it would penalize drivers who might only have little more fuel than the official race distance? They ran how many extra laps?

Finally. A debris caution with actual debris.

They would have canceled the entire race if it was F1. Seriously, a chunk of asphalt through a windshield could kill you.

I thought it was pretty lame. Biggest race of the year and....aren't they supposed to inspect the track beforehand?

I loved how the announcers kept saying things like "we'll be going green again shortly" when all the drivers are out of their cars, safety equipment off. Yea.

I was in a restaurant (Pier at Malibu) and saw it on, but no sound. Couldn't figure why they were just sitting around.

The last month has seem some crazy weather at the track and the cars were rubbing the surface at that location.

The track is scheduled for a $20M repaving later this year.

Perhaps a year late, but, it happens.

If you knew the France family's spending habits ( I used to fly them), you'd understand waiting too long to repave.

The drivers did not want the repave, they cited how long it took for the last repave to get 'normal' traction.

In these days if unlimited liability, a cut tire or a suspension collapse (front right) would have resulted in a certain crash, and certain lawsuit.

i guess those guys are sooooo on the edge constantly that it doesn't take much to cause major issues.

couldn't help thinking of youtube vids i've seen of Rohrl driving a rally where there was no 'track repair red flag'

didn't watch the entire thing (who could!) but the commercialism was just over the top. and very un-slick (particularly on the part of the announcers).

'does that ford have enough horses ta git er done?'.....jeebus was that awful. but almost topped by 'that mustang is a quick shifting, hard running blah blah blah'.
