Rant about BS posters on net forums...

Small Internet Rant.

Every so often I get fed up with the endless lying people feel the need to do, so I am going to rant for a second. You all can beat me up for it.

It’s a lot worse over on the stock market and options boards I answer questions on but I just read a bunch of posts on another automotive board that made me sick. Amazing how people feel the need to claim they’re buying cars at discounts which are just silly and then the dealers are willing to throw in everything but the kitchen sink too. Hey I am in the business and know there are good deals to be had, I also know that dealers are not selling stuff at massive losses and throwing in thousands of dollars of other parts and services.

It always amazes me how there are more Ferrari’s owned by people on market or options boards than Ferrari’s ever produced. I guess it’s the same thing that there are always people on the web who claim they bought P cars for thousands and thousands less that our dealer would ever sell them or any dealer I know would ever sell them.

Just wanted to get on record !!!! Okay you can flame away at me !!!

Thanks for listening!!

I'm not a BS poster, I just know everything. It's a gift/curse.

I paid $1,675 for my '72 911 coupe...

And I can get the seller to vouch :)

Wow, you paid that much! I got a factory RSR for 5000 bucks. The seller threw in 4 sets of spare Fuchs!

Dueller 02-17-2010 07:38 PM

Rather than ranting, the proper response to such BS is: "That's a great story...and you tell it so well.":D

Wow! That's $7,725 less than I paid for my old car.

Hugh R 02-17-2010 07:45 PM

I DID buy my Aston Martin DB4 for $1,750 (in 1970) and it was a piece of crap and worn out, and I did sell it for $250,000 to the Prime Minister of Kuwait.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1266464735.jpg

bell 02-17-2010 07:47 PM

quit yer whining you little *****

sorry....had too LOL

hugh......that's flipping awesome, i'd ask if you miss the car....but i think the 250k answers that :)

Hugh R 02-17-2010 07:52 PM

I watched the video that Shaun posted on Jay Leno's Gullwing and it did evoke some strong emotions for my old car. Someday I hope to buy another one, but "hope" is the operative word.

bell 02-17-2010 08:01 PM

i really really miss my 911.......my 924s is ok but is definitely not dialed in right now........
i'm hoping i can get our life back on track over the next few months so i can start saving for one again.....

And I DID buy my '72 911T for $1,750 in 2003. Of course, I also spent $40k restoring it. My first post wasn't untrue...just wasn't complete.

Then there are some truly amazing scores. I went to see a guy about a Carrera. When I got there it was idling in front of the house, waiting for me to check it out. I drove away in it 5 minutes later for a price that I won't bother repeating - nobody here would believe it I got a roadworthy, presentable, inspectable, registerable 3.2 Carrera for what I paid.

Aaaaand then there are just the kooks who want to live the dream :)

Brad Paisley wrote a song for those people... "I'm so much better online". Its pretty good, actually.

Forums are supposed to help people, when they ask a question. If someone lies, or embellishes the truth, it kind of destroys that purpose.

I got owned on my first 911, a 3.2 Cab. I learned on here, and think I did ok on my 964 T. I got it for $42K 3 years ago with 30K miles on it. Yeah, it took me a little bit of $$ to get it de-tuned, adjusted for the altitude.

Tidybuoy 02-17-2010 10:08 PM

I won this 1974 914 in a raffle. Yep, one $25 ticket and I won. And that aint no b.s. Of course, that was a few years ago.

You think you want to pull your hair out now...just listen to me and you will be ready for the rubber room...

Hey Hugh where did ya buy that DB? Saw one in junk yard in Pomona about that time...

craigster59 02-18-2010 05:55 AM

I'd never trade my 928 for a 911. I think it's a much better car, far superior to those air-cooled money pits.

Hugh R 02-18-2010 06:20 AM

Tabs, I bought it in Oxford, UK when in the USMC, from a British Colonel. He bought it in Sudan, N. Africa from a tribal chieftain. It was originally sold in Switzerland. So it had been around the block.

Tabs, I have been shaving whats left of the hair on my head for 15 years!!! Thats the residuals from being a currency derivative trader and working basically from Sunday at 3pm until Friday t 5pm for 10 years.

My rant was more about the people who claim they are buying leftover Porsches for 60 to 70 cents on the dollar with thousands in throw in extras. It's not happening.

Let me try one of the others...

Hey I just looked in my neighbors garage, she’s a widower and apparently he husband had an 88 911 Club Sport. It only has 4,743 miles on it and she offered to sell it to me for $10,000 if I helped shovel her walks and driveway for the rest of the season. !!!! Wooo hooo that was fun!

bivenator 02-18-2010 06:52 AM

My targa will go 165 with the top off.

tangerine911S 02-18-2010 08:05 AM

I bought my 100% solid, matching numbers '72 911S in 2003 for $13,400. I always considered that quite a good deal.

Again, this is the third time!

What I hate are people that answer questions as gospel and they have no practical experience. I have a WRX and some of the posts on NASIOC are horribly bad advice and the only reason I can see that they were posted is the guy likes to type.

The other thing that gets me is the statement of the obvious like "pull your pants down before you crap". Come on. I can type reasonable English which means I passed the third grade and have my car half apart on the driveway so lefty loosey righty tighty is a bit much.

Ditto!!!

I LMAO when people who know nothing about options start posting totally wrong info or better yet going over the top obvious like "yea I bot those calls yesterday" when the stocks up big today.

Ya really wana talk about Profit...I have bought alot of art in the past..quiet frankly there is more money left lying about in art than anything else..spoons for the most part have serial numbers and model numbers on them...so every one knows, Coins the same, Stamps, cars, silver..glass you name it's got a name on it...ART sometimes ya can't read the signature, it is so dirty that you can't see the picture, it has been on Grandmas wall and they hated it or they are just moving...

I have bought $10,000 paintings for $550 (Ray Austin Crooke) . or a $40,000 painting for $1100 (David Roberts RA)... a $4500 painting for $330 (Norman McLeish) or a $12000 painting for $2000 (Venard).

Then again I have seen a $10 Garage sale find turn into $8900..

scottmandue 02-18-2010 01:00 PM

I bought me a Teslarossa for a nickle!

Beat that...

Over the last 3 years, 1 week and 4 days, I've made $3.14 million in garage sales, working part time, every other weekend.

Full time, I sell a $3.14 book telling how you too can do this. I only sell the books in 314 book lots, at a deep discount, for $671.81. This allows you to reap a profit of $3.14 per book by selling them for the $3.14 cover price.

I don't advertise because I can't keep up with sales - so it's strictly word of mouth. PM me (but please, not all at once) to order and in 3 weeks and 14 days, or 5 weeks - whichever comes first - you'll be well on your way down the road to riches.

A Teslarossa for a nickle? Hate ta pull your breaker Sparky, but I'm, currently, not ready for induction into the Hall of Gullibles.

Sorry to give you static, but I'm a pretty well grounded person with a high capacity for belief in other's claims, but I have very high resistance to claims such as yours, which make me recoil in doubt.

I'm usually laid back but your outrageous claim has short circuited my patience and caused me to blow a fuse, transforming me into a wound up and really irritated person!

Bah! I'm bolting outta here. I have to patch my roof anyway and was just about to go borrow my neighbor Jacob's ladder.
