Flanders automobile--was at the founder's house today.
I have a healthcare facility in West Bloomfield that we service. The place is an old mansion. I asked one of the staff today about who the builder/owner was.
He was a partner of Henry Ford who split and started his own company. The original parts of the house are awesome. The "carriage" house has a ballroom and bowling alley! The ceilings are leather and the molding/trim work is beautiful(in a manly way, of course.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flanders_(automobile_company)

On the way up to Copper Harbor last year we stopped at the Laurium Manor in Calumet(built by old copper mining money). Beautiful old victorian B&B maintained and restored by a young couple. The garage has a spin platter for the carriage.
The drive around the tip during the fall is not to be missed. I think it was on Road and Tracks top ten. Trees exploding in color, twisty perfectly paved roads without traffic, some of the best german(or resteraunt) food I've ever eaten, wildberry jams picked fresh by monks, etc... |
