Wife's new car

We sold her TBird this weekend and got her a new White Rabbit, or Golf this year. She needed something with more room than the TBird but not big. We looked at everything in the less than 20k range and the Golf seemed to be the best, or at least what she liked the best. I even like driving it better that the TBird. With that car I always wanted to put a sign in the window that said "wife's car". This is small and fun. Not as much fun as the Porsche and not nearly as fast as the TBird but still fun. I counted the cars we/I have had in the last 10 years, 14 nice, running cars but the only two I would buy again are the Corvette and the Porsche. Now we have two VWs, but one is only half, it has the Subaru motor.

Gee, a white rabbit.
Does one pill make you larger & one pill make you small?

For at least the last fifty years, the most common remark made by someone driving a new VW has been "gee, this is fun to drive."

I don't take the ones to make me smaller any more.

Dean,

Cool Vanagon.

I picked up a '89 Vangon last year with a recently rebuild 2.1L in it. It is the twin to yours except that mine is 0-60 in a minute and a half. But I love it. I just smile at the people as they go around me. Can't explain why it is so fun to go so slow.

The Golf looks cool too. I was thinking of going with a Mini for my wife but that looks like a nice German alternative.

Long live Fahrvergnügen

I tried to talk her into a Mini, even the wagon, but she liked the feel and size of this better. We looked at Mazda3s and everything else out there, this at under 20k was the best deal we found. I wanted the GTI but she opted for the 170hp model. OK, 30 mpg+-.

No not a syncro, just a weekender - the windows have been tinted since this picture. We have camped in it a few times, looking forward to this summer to do it again. I'm just up PCH from you in HB.

Dean,

With looking at that picture you posted of the Syncro, that is one odd looking Vanagon. What is the story behind it?

I've never seen a stretch syncro. What did he do for a drive shaft?

I didn't crawl under so I don't know and didn't think to ask. It all works and is registered as diesel I THINK is a Subaru motor. I had to ask where it was joined on the body, I couldn't see it.

That stretch is crazy. ...it has the fuel filler of a Syncro, but the rear window 'jail bars' and pod speakers of an '84. It has the syncro molded mudflaps in the front, but not the rear.

...I have a white syncro (87)
