You know how Jay Leno walks around and asks people random facts that SHOULD be common knowledge. Well I always thought that was rigged until today.

After talking to a few different (female) coworkers I have decided that women are dumb.

Example A:
"You cannot drive to Alaska Tom! It's off by Hawaii....." SERIOUSLY!?!

Example B:
"Oh that's nice. How long will your wife be in Atlanta? You better watch out there are a lot fo casinos in Atlanta.".....Umm Michelle Casinos are in Atlantic CITY not Atlanta. SERIOUSLY!?!

How is this even possible for people to think like this? It isn't like I am a super smarty. I am probably one of the dumbest here on Pelican, but for people to think like this boggles my mind!

Ask random folks how many states there are. Seriously. I asked a slew of folks in a bar one night and only 1 or 2 said "50". The rest rang the gamut between 47 and 53 except 50.

I've said it many times before, and I'll say it again. People are stupid.

And everytime I look at a US map on the Weather Channel to get out of the rain, there's Alaska right by the Hawaiin islands

I was saying this to my wife the other day, TWC is going to make people dumber with that map. Hawaii and Alaska are about the same size too.

I took a Japanese class a few years ago at the local state college (CSU). Japanese 101, so mix of students, but a lot of Freshmen...and me.

So we get to the part about telling time. We were supposed to study the words to tell time the night before. The teacher then goes around class holding a paper clock, moving the hands, and you had to say what time it was in Japanese.

Teacher gets to this 18 y.o. chick, who is dumbfounded. Teacher starts to rail her about not studying. She says that she studied the Japanese words for telling time, but that she does not know what time it is on the kind of clock with the big hand and the little hand. She only knows how to tell time on a digital clock.

This is a college student, and this aint a community college either. I was stunned that anyone can be that clueless. Imagine how dumb some of the people are who can't get into CSU.

Tom, I've always known the Jaywalking segment isn't faked, but when my wife watches it with me, she can't believe it isn't. She has a master's degree... maybe she thinks everybody has a basic level of intelligence and is at least moderately up on current events.

I assure her that is not the case, and that there are plenty of bimbos out there that barely got through high school... male and female... and could not care less about history and current events. Ask these bimbos who the Speaker of the House is and you'll get a blank stare... ask 'em when the Korean War was and you'll get 1776.

However, she would be the first to admit that she is severely challenged geographically. That's fairly common with women, too. Maps are pretty much a guy thing.

All that said, when you watch Jaywalking, you are getting the dumbest of the dumb... they show very few examples of people answering those questions correctly.

Yeah. My girlfriend's 16 yo nephew has the same problem.
In addition, he thinks that "Quarter after" means 25 minutes after. Why? because a "quarter" is 25 cents. nevermind the fact that it's 1/4 of an hour, which is 15 minutes.... I tried to explain to him "Four quarters in a dollar - four quarters in an hour. 60 divided by what is 4?"

I don't think they are all that related to be honest. I worked in Wisconsin with some smart folks in the IT industry. These folks were certainly not stupid. But heaven forbid you ask them a cultural question of any kind. The world beyond the borders of Wisonsin was 'Otherland' too them. I swear to god, some of those folks in Northern Wisconsin thought going to Milwaukee was like visiting the Taj Mahal or something.
