Good call - my F-100 has served me well. Granted a new F-150 and my F-100 are probably about as similar as your truck is to a 911, but still.

Wow, can't believe you bought a Ford. Also can't believe how cheap it was, there must not be a lot of real buyers showing up at the dealer these days.

FWIW, I've had nothing but good luck w/ Ford trucks for over 20 years. Fixed normal stuff on the older ones but nothing unusual and the newer ones I've had were perfect. My last two F-250 diesel 4x4s never had so much as a hick-up driving cross-country, towing heavy, etc...

I wish you the same good luck, they're always the nicest driving of the Big 3. Also, you could private sale the Toyota and get top dollar for it. You certainly don't need two trucks. Get the daughter some cute-looking car w/ a lot of airbags. :cool:

You'll love it. I bought a new 2010 4x4 King Ranch F-150 in January. My first Ford. I must be getting old....I can remember when $47k was a lot of money for a truck! All leather (all....no inserts), leather on the dash, heated and air cooled seats, Sirius, 700 watt prem stereo, tow package, 20" wheels, back up camera, etc. Like a Lexus on the inside with a lined bed out back. Have been really happy with it. Plan to hold on to it for a long time. You made a good move. And no gubmint bail out money.

Way to go, Sammy! :D Now, wait until the 2011 Mustangs come out with the 412 horsepower 5.0 engine...:rolleyes:

They don't make 'em like they used to. They make 'em a lot better.

And this is coming from someone who likes old stuff.

LOL i just went back and found the post when I bought the tundra and I thought it was the best truck ever. I even thought the ride was nice.

you have TWO trucks? congrats on the new ford. i love the american trucks. pretty much all of them. (well the full sized ones).

i would give the daughter the tundra. or if she doesnt want it, trade it for the sentra..TWO trucks is insane. ahhahah. (jealous)

Men should drive large trucks, large men. Not little men, not little girls, large men. Build large trucks for large men and you don't need electronic pedal adjusters. (that should get some flames ;) )

The toyota has cubby holes. lots of em. Places to stash all kinds of stuff, the ford not so much except a small person could live in the hard plastic pockets in the doors.

The tundra has a harsher ride, the ford is much smoother.
That is a big deal. Of all the things I don't like about the Toyota the ride has to be near the top. It isn't that bad but it could be much better.
Like i said, this is a big deal. I imagine cruising the freeway in the ford would be much more comfortable and more enjoyable than the toyota.

The tundra's 4.7 liter engine feels about the same as the fords 5.4 liter. I didn't get a chance to floor it in the ford as the dealer guy prolly wouldn't have liked that. Gas mileage is probably about the same.

The tundra has a higher towing capacity but I'll never use it.

The ford's steering is heavier but still not bad.

The tundra's brakes are super strong, but also very touchy. The first time you drive one you'll be into the anti-lock brakes until you get used to only using one toe on the pedal.

The turning radius on the ford sucks almost as bad as a chebby, the toyota can turn circles inside both of them. Even though the toyota is bigger, it's much easier to park than a ford.

The tundra's roof line extends down to the door too far so I have to really duck my head getting in, not so with the ford. I'm 6'2" BTW.
Once inside they both have plenty of head room, it's just getting in and out that's a pain in the toyota.

The back seat and legroom in the supercab ford is huge. They do that by making the bed only 6" instead of 6 1/2" on the tundra. The tundra has storage boxes under the rear seats, the ford does not.

The visibility out of the ford is much better.

The tundra is one big blind spot.
The tundra's pillar that goes up the side of the windshield is way too wide so you have to look around it. visibility out of the back of a tundra while backing is limited to the side mirrors, you can't see squat out the rear view. Backing takes some guess work in the tundra unless you have a spotter.

I really liked the look of the new tundra when it first came out but the look has become dated quickly. Mine has charcoal black interior which is hot in the summer and a pain to keep clean.
The new ford looks really nice, not like the new silverado with that huge monstrosity of a growth they call a front bumper that hangs down on the sides forever. WTF were they thinking?

The base priced tundra comes equipped. The base priced ford is lucky to have wheels.
Oh, you wanted doors? those are extra. ;)

Toyota also has a "built in" anti stop mechanism too :D, and that feature alone should make some nice "cubbies" in sombody elses rear bumper not to mention its own front :D
Tundra gets terrible fuel mileage and no matter what the propoganda states, they still feel way way underpowered.....especially for the ridiculous price.

Those same facts applied to the tundra I had before this one too.
I towed a 3 1/2 ton trailer to and from San Diego last year and the truck felt like it could handle it with no problem at all. It rarely even downshifted.
This was with the smaller engine, not the big 5.7 version which is rated at zero to 60 in 6 seconds.

The guy i carpool with has a new silverado and I can guaranty you my tundra will keep up with his truck, maybe even do a little better. He thinks my tundra is quicker than his truck and has said so a few times.

Based on the little time I've had the ford, the tundra feels like it accelerates about even with the it, even though the ford has a bigger engine.

Ridiculous price? Take away all the temporary factory incentives and the tundra is less expensive than the ford or chebby.

I'm not sure what you are talking about in the rest of your post. Maybe you are referring to toyota's recent recalls? please tell me you aren't one of those mush-heads that are being so easily manipulated by the media.

I have never had a problem with my tundra. Not a single hiccup. Nothing fixed, nothing broke, nothing repaired or replaced.
No one i know who has a tundra has ever had an acceleration problem with one. I haven't even heard of an acceleration problem in any tundra in the media.

Have you actually driven a tundra? I seriously doubt it, sounds to me like you are making things up for some reason. What could that reason be?

i test drove a 4.7 4x4 tundra about a year ago. i wanted it BAD! i was escorted into a very plush salesman's office, got a cool bottle of water, and got handed the biggest load of crap ever. they tag teamed me between two salesman and one sales manager. all they wanted to talk about was what i wanted my monthly payments to be. WTF? the sales manager got so pissed at me, he slammed his book, and walked out. first time ever that i didnt get a call back at home. the sales manager even handed me this computer printout. he said, "i'm not supposed to EVEN show this to you, but this is what we paid for the truck...." i should have blown my nose with it.

sammy you have 2 very nice trucks.

3 guys in the office replaced their old F150, Tundra, Nissan pickups for the new F150 and they're happy! They're now convincing two others.. That truck is that good I suppose..

IMO the F150 is probably the nicest looking interior and possible the best vehicle for all conditions.

congrats on the truck sammy! I'm sure your daughter can learn to drive the Tundra...its turning radius is better than a lot of cars! Besides, once she can drive a big truck, she can drive just about anything else out there...

not so sure about that...I'm about to relist my supercharged Tundra (504 HP, 550 lb-ft of torque back on evilbay tomorrow morning, with a reserve set at the blue book value, without the $6k supercharger. Granted it needs a bit of love with bodywork, but I can't believe the lack of interest in it.

My Tundra will smoke quite a few cars in stock form, and most of them with the supercharger. With the s/c I've averaged 22mpg when going a steady 60mph, and 17mpg towing a 4,000lb trailer. You've obviously never owned or driven one.

I woke up and smelled the coffee and came to the realization that I'm not wealthy enough or irresponsible enough to keep both the trucks.
The tundra will eventually have to go.

I drove the tundra to work today and when I went out to lunch I almost got sentimental, I still really like that truck.
I drove it around on errands yesterday too, I have not driven the ford since I drove it home from the dealer on Saturday night. It's almost like I feel guilty for buying the ford.

I'll get over it though, it's a good thing I'm an insensitive bastage (or so my wife says) ..... ;)

My neighbor is a sales manager at a Toyota dealer. He brought me a tundra to drive for a few days. My other neightbor has an F150. The tundra is no match from its weak engine to its cheap interior, not to mention the overated nameplate attached to it. My opinion.

Except ... a question: was this a new generation tundra you drove (2007 on) or an earlier version? The really early ones were sluggish. The later ones pull. Hard.

BTW, I drove the ford to work today.
I use a freeway on-ramp i call the drag strip. Red light holds you there, green light says go for a very short ramp and you have to get up to 70+ mph to blend in with traffic. It's a zero to 70 test every morning.
I've nailed the toyota hundreds of times on that onramp, full throttle, hold it pinned, let off when you match the speed of traffic.

I did it today in the ford. i have to say the 5.4 liter pulled nicely but didn't rev as high as the toyota and it felt like it didn't pull quite as as hard.
not very scientific but there's real world experience.
One of these days I'll try it in towing mode just for giggles. BTW i believe in breaking them in hard to run them hard. If it can't take a full throttle run up to 4800 rpm when new now and then, it's a POS. IMHO of course. The Toyota never seemed to be bothered by it.

Yesterday the Toyota, today the ford, the Toyota seemed to hit 70 quicker. If it didn't the two were very close. Too close to tell by SOTP.

Maybe there was something wrong with the Toyota you drove, or maybe it was a V6? They made a few of those.

Maybe my ford is still really tight (and slow) but i doubt that.
My tundra hits zero to 60 in 8 seconds according to the magazines. The 5.7 does it in 6 flat.
That is not anemic.
With the traction control turned off, my Toyota can boil both rear tires without power braking. Big smoke cloud. I only did it once.

What's the big deal about 0-60? Its just a truck. The F150 is a slug compared to a 3/4 ton with a pressurized diesel, anyways.

Try to merge with my Land Cruiser then ask that question.

Um....I thought the beauty of the truck was that you didn't need acceleration to merge;)

IMO there is nothing in this world more obnoxious that the sound from those hopped up diesel trucks, except may the sound from a subaru WRX with a fart can exhaust.
I'd be much happier with a slug than an obnoxiously loud truck.

Yup, I agree. Why would someone want to be a wannabe trucker? That's hilarious.

The stock trucks are pretty quiet under acceleration. The rattling at idle is what kills it for me.

Sammy the price that you got the Ford for is killing me. I am in the market for a new car and swore I wouldn't buy new. Did you get 0.0% financing? I have no idea how used car dealers are staying in business when a dealer is offering a new car is 0% financing.

0% is available IN LIEU OF the big rebates required to get the price so low. Do the math and one option may work out better for your particular situation. Usually, I'd recommend the rebate to keep your options open for early trade or early payoff.
