checking out an F-150
I have an appointment this afternoon to test drive a new F-150.
Yes me. The guy who hates fords with a passion and swore he'd never drive one again as long as I live. It's mostly out of curiosity. A guy at work bought one and raves about it, I want to see if he's FOS. Plus they are offering so many incentives its crazy, almost $6k off plus low interest if I decide to finance, which I probably won't. I have a feeling it's only going to confirm my opinion that all fords are junk, but I'll try to keep an open mind ![]() Any BTDT? BTW, re: the appointment thing: I do not talk to the sales slugs that prowl the lot. Never ever. I made an appointment with a manager, who is one step above a sales slug. |

I have been impressed with recent ford offerings...particularly the F150....
Of course I drive clapped out old German cars so what do I know?

Bought my first one used, then immediately bought a Ford factory warranty to go with it. I wouldn't own one without a warranty. This is the wisdom acquired from a Ford truck forum. So far I've recouped half the cost of the warranty. I've never owned a full size pickup before; I sure like it. You feel like a king driving around in those.
You'd be buying new, so you're covered.

I don't even know why I'm considering it, my truck is less than three years old but I'm getting the new truck itch. Usually I can hold out 5 years before that hits. Another question I haven't been able to answer, why in the world would I need two trucks? I actually had a chebby silverado for 7 years once, that was a record for me. nothin better than driving a brand new truck ![]() |

I drove a Ford ranger 130,000 miles on the first clutch. Total 'unexpected' costs in 7 years came out to be $238.
I currently own a 93 F150 with 227k on the clock. Always starts, can still haul a 1/2 ton up the steepest hills. IMHO the 300ci inline 6 is one of the best engines ever made. Skip the v8. Last edited by HardDrive; 02-26-2010 at 11:15 AM.. |

If I'm not mistaken, they no longer offer any 6 cyl option, nor a manual transmission in the 150.

I think they are going to have a diesel in the F150 in 2010, yes?

2005 F-150, 5.4 Triton, 4x4 crew cab, lot of options.
Zero issues in 70K miles, none, zip, nada. And I tow with it, a lot, horses, hay, dump trailer. etc. I do keep up with maintenance.

That said...Ford offerings? Pick up an April issue of HOT ROD. Read their dissection of the soon to be released 5.0 Mustang engine. Pretty tricky stuff, producing 84 (IIRC) horsepower per liter. Not bad for a normally apirated powerplant.

Sammy,
I have 2 newer F150s, one 2WD and one 4WD. You will be amazed at how nicely these trucks drive. I kid my wife that my F150 has a smoother ride than her new Mercedes (and it does). I tow 8,000 lbs every month with the 2WD to the race track and it does it without complaining. I've had F250s in the past, and while they are great towing machines, they are as uncomfortable as all heck. Both F150s have been 100% reliable. Awesome vehicles.

BTW, I picked up the 2006 2WD XLT with 5.4 liter V8 on one of those Saturday "2 at this price" deals. Paid $18,900 for it. It had a $31,000 and change sticker price. Brand new.

True, especially on an Interstate...75/80 without a whisper of noise or movement.

Ive got a 01 Ranger with over 220k on the clock that still runs and looks new . Only had and alternator replaced and regular maintenance since new and I would drive it across the country at anytime without thinking twice. I was a service mgr at a lgm dealer and I can tell you first hand that Ford is a much better quality vehicle overall. |

Well, that was a mistake. I drove a 2010 silver-gray XLT and darned near fell in love with it.
Very nice. That truck was made for me. I guess I'm going to have to stop bad-mouthing fords. Unfortunately the truck was about $6k too much. I had gone to edmunds.com and checked out pricing, and even with all the incentives out there right now this truck was a whole bunch more than i expected. I guess at edmunds.com I was looking at a stripped down version instead of the fairly loaded truck I test drove. Things like carpet are considered "options". Even a V8 engine is considered an option and costs more. They had a stripped down LT with steel wheels and rubber floor mats that was more in line with what I expected to pay but that wasn't gonna do it for me. The dealer was awesome though, no games, straight shooters. My brother is the private pilot for the really rich guy who owns the dealership (he has about 15 dealerships), maybe that had something to do with it. I could afford the truck but I couldn't afford the divorce if you know what i mean. Oh well. Maybe if I'm reaaaaaaalllly nice to the wife ...... |

Wow, Sammy thinking 'merican is good? The world has ended. I actually have been considering the new Ford's. They seem to be great cars. I am a huge fan of the fusion, but absolutely hated the flex.

Just go get a beater F150! You should be able to find one without rusted fenders and rocker panels out there Sammy.

Capistrano Ford in San Juan Capistrano has the best Saturday specials. Check their online ad (the same ad that appears in the Sat paper). I've seen new XLTs going for $25K several times. Capistrano Ford dealers Orange County Ford San Juan Newport Beach Camp Pendleton Ford dealers Santa Ana Ford
Cool thing about the Saturday specials is you run down there early, don't haggle the price & you're out of there in 45 minutes in your new truck ![]() Ask for Chris Lance. Tell him I sent you ![]()
