Mac folks - how do you manage your contacts?
I have a sizable contact list that is saved in both .pst (Outlook) and my Google mail contacts. I was messing around with OS-X 10.5 Address Book and after a couple hours of regenerating contact groups got stuff imported to Address Book. Now I want to share my Address Book with my wife (separate login on same Mac) but so far have come up dry. I can import the vcard for all contacts but subsequently lose all group info. WTF - how is this sort of thing done?
I figured out how each user can share the same iPhoto library - was not intuitive (you have to delete the iPhoto db in your Pictures folder with the Finder then lauch iPhoto which will prompt for a iPhoto db. You then point to the shared one) so I'm guessing the Address Book app has a similar obtuse way of doing this. Or do folks use something else for contact DB management on Mac? |

Get what you are trying to do but the Address Book app has more inherent functionality. Because it is accessible from address to fields in mail apps it shares its info via LDAP.
Let me noodle it a bit.

ok, try this. We're going to put the address book in the shared folder and make some aliases to it in the user folders.
So, from macintosh hd/users/david/library/application support/address book copy the AdressBook-v22.abcddb file to macintosh hd/users/shared/library/application support/address book Get info on the file, command I, under sharing and permissions make sure all accounts have read and write privileges. Make an alias of the file in the new location, under the file menu or command L then move the alias back to the original David account as well as the other user accounts that you want to share with. You'll need to either delete, rename or move the original file from the david account or address book will keep using it. Lemme know. WARNING: have not had a lot of sleep this weekend and am sitting here drinking while watching team USA go for the gold so not too sharp right now.
