Going to Puerto Rico for a TV Pilot!
In March, yeah, one thing I LOVE about my job. Going to take Mrs Hugh R; my hotel and meals are paid, airfare, rental car, the wifey goes on FF miles with United. I may spend a few weeks there. Haven't seen the script yet, no idea what kind of TV pilot. Wifey looked at a couple of good websites on PR, and places to go. On a day off we'll do the scuba diving and parasailing thing, as well as tourist old San Juan.
I was there once on shore leave in 1972 for a few days with the USMC, so 38 years later, I'm going again! Did I say I LOVE my job? I'll get a few weeks in San Juan the wife and hardly spend a dime of my own money. I've done the same, taking her to London, Prague, Budapest, the Bahamas, Toronto, Montreal, Auckland, and a bunch of places in the good old USA. ![]() ![]() BTW, any must see places that you can recommend?

Go do the rain forest tour outside of San Juan. I know that's weak, but the only other things I remember about PR are of little use to married people.

I have heard that the two smaller islands (Vieques and Culebra IIRC) are not to be missed, I think they are a couple of hours by ferry.

It's been 20 years since I was there and I spent 3 weeks sorting out the control system of a Gas Turbine, 12 hours a day + 1 hour each way to and from work. The resort we stayed in was nice...the one sunday I was able to see it during daylight hours.

If you like roasted pig, get a rental car and go to Guavate.

I did some missile shots off of Roosevelt Roads Naval Station in early 1990...we also got to fly around the Island quite a bit. Very beautiful.
I did do the rain forest tour and it was great, a world I had not been in before. Highly recommend. ![]()

Cool, thanks guys. I did Vieques when in the USMC, we bombed the crap out of that island for decades. I'll check out the Mall and the Rain Forest for sure.

El Radar is cool...Arecibo that is, the old fort in San Juan, Ponce in the south is nice but alot of the interior island is crappy.

Skip puerto rico and take a short flight to the Tortola. You won't be displeased.

Try the local rum while there. Much better than the large chains.

Joe, good point. And remember, you can bring back 5 liters, not the usual 1 liter per adult, when you return.

Second vote for the rain forest on the eastern side. Kayak trip from the ocean up to the Bio Bay (glowing, phosphorescent water/organisms). Old San Juan is fun for nightlife and small, unique restaurants. Rincon in the west for quiet beaches.
Beautiful place, but familiar too - like Hawaii. Exotic, but with a Baskin Robbins, etc., if you crave something familiar during a long stay....Best food locally was some sort of stew over smashed plantains....can't recall the name, but yum! Last edited by RKC; 02-03-2010 at 12:50 PM.. |

Well when I went to PR I didn't get to do any visiting. I was stuck in the airport for 8 hrs. Now in the BVI I was stuck on a sailboat for a week. I guess I am a little jaded.

ain't that the truth! I was trying to get off island back when Hurricane Debbie was about to hit the island. But I couldn't get on the last flight. There I was with nothing...absolutely nothing to do. Man I had no idea that they literally shut down everything during a hurricane. After a couple of hours I was able to contact an associate and was rescued from the airport.
