After watching that insane video of another Escort flipping, we scratched the idea.
And...the fat tires turned out to be ...ahem... 15 years old

I have over 1000 miles with wide slicks on this car. All is well.

We are 22nd out 152 cars after the first day.
Car runs wonderful. Not a single problem.

Race resumes tomorrow morning at 9:15.

That guy was just trying to carry his speed down into the next corner. Heh heh.

KT in action... nice camera placement... you can see the cars he's just passed in the mirror:

We won one of the organizer's choice/class trophy's.
We were listed as 10th place at one time!

We ran a clean, trouble free race.

Nicely done. Which trophy did you win? I delivered my vintage car for some winter updates to Portland and talked to a couple of the guys from our winning Chumpcar Portland team. We're hoping to do Spokane and Portland again this year.

At the awards, there was an award for the "Good", the "Bad" and the "Ugly" Filthy came home with the "Bad" award. We still aren't totally sure what it means...

You probably got the "bad" for the sacrilege that is painting an escort in Gulf colors....

It's not such a sacrilege, Sid... it's a Ford, ain't it?

I'm betting they got the bad award because it's "Bad to the Bone."

KT... what's the story on the tires again? 15 years old? Literally numbers-on-the-sidewall-decade-and-a-half old?

If so, how were they not showing cracks on the sidewalls?

Zero grip?

Yeah, I see the family resemblance. They're like twins.

The fat tires were old.
We ran the skinny new Falkens. 205/50/15.

The fat tires were just for show.

That doesn't make any sense... you posted a pic with them on the car over at 914club.com and labelled it "We did race testing today."

I drove on them on Thursday... ops:

They were actually quite nice.

Tech for LeMons was Friday and I explained to the inspectors that we we're not going to run them.

Turns out, that after the rollover in the last race in an Escort with fat tires, they are changing the rules to keep tire under the fenders.

Our next theme will be outrageous.

'Special bodywork' required.
The front fenders, valence, part of the hood, rear wing, fenders and valence are all getting replaced.
