He also clearly has no desire to actually sell them, given the price and requirement that they be sold as a lot.

Given the condition of most of them you'd be deep underwater as soon as you started buying fresh plugs.

Clean E Type drivers, especially the SII's, aren't exactly rare or expensive. Why would someone buy a large group of primarily crappy ones?

Especially when 4 of them are homely 2+2's?

Goofy.

I was thinking the same thing. Only sold as a lot. Sold for $200k. Only local pickup.

I wonder if this is one of those instances where he's got it online to satisfy a wife, or if he's one of those folks that thinks that his stuff is premium and worth top dollar.

I've seen stuff at garage/yard/rummage sales that was close to retail price.

I'd take one. Just one, not a 2+2, and not for $16.6K which is the asking price divided by 12. $1.6K maybe.

The Coupes aren't crazy expensive in restored drivable condition
Neither are those 6 cylinders... And the only V12 convertibles, are 74's, late years, i think that makes em less crazy desirable as well.... but , i'm no Jag expert...

I'm not sure why anybody would want to buy 12 parts cars instead of just buying 1 top specimen and have plenty of spare cash to buy whatever parts one might require..

Death by auto restoration? Just think how good you'd be by the time you were done with #12!

So how well do those things take to a re-engining? I heard people used to do that back in the 1980s... installing a Chevrolet 350 or 305 so they could actually drive the car around some?

That was with the XJS I think, not the XKE. At least I hope not...

I found engine swap kits for both apparently, but the XKS seems to be the more popular of the two. It sounds like it'd be a lot of fun if I had the resources, but then again a whole lot of car stuff would be if we had all the time, tools and money in the world.

You obviously never owned a '79 Trans Am with the Olds built 403 ci/6.6L engine.

A big block with an awesome 185 hp from the factory.

I know gutless.

185 out of a 6.6 , yeah, that is pretty weak considering Porsche got 200+ out of it's 3L engines in 79

Tim

I had a brief run in with an '82 El camino with the 305... A PO had removed the smog by unhooking the pump and crimping lines with a pair of needle nose pliers.... It never did run right....

I had a 76 XJ6-L with a 300 horse small block chevy under the hood. That was my daily driver for years. Nothing wrong with that car that replacing all the grounds and dropping in the small block couldn't take care of! Okay, except the freakin' wipers - but that's another story - LOL!

I could not in good conscience put a small block in a E-type though. I've seen it done, it's just not something I would do. I'm especially enamored with the two seat coupes. I find the 2+2 a bit ungainly, however.

All E-types are collectors cars in UK as most were exported. The 6 cylinder XK engine was extremely reliable if PROPERLY maintained, and the V12 was as well( IF THERE WASN'T ENOUGH ANTI-FREEZE in the V12 you will have fun removing the heads. Both engines produced
plenty of smooth power so why would anyone do a V8 swop?

'85 Oldsmobile Delta 88 w/Olds 307. That thing would barely top 90mph.

WHen I was in college my roommate had an '87 Trans Am with a 305HO. I wouldn't have called his car gutless.

I'd like to have a hot rod\outlaw E Type, unfortunately I don't think I need 11 parts cars to get it done.
