Motorcycle recalls...

I never hear about motorcycle recalls. I assume they happen, right?

I had a recall on my 03 Harley-Davidson road king something about a taillight bulb socket.

Why bother? The problems fix themselves eventually.

Yup. That's pretty much the mother of all MC recalls.

I'm a bit surprised the the nanny-state hasn't permanently recalled all M/C's for that 'tip over' problem.

Aprilia RSV Mille - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"With 998 cc 60 degree V-twin engines built by the Austrian company Rotax, the RSV Mille was the first large displacement motorcycle made by Aprilia that up to then had made up to 250cc engines.[2] This same engine was used unmodified in the Tuono and in slightly modified form in the SL1000 Falco."

All new Aprilias have Aprilia engines. That's the problem. The Rotax V-twins were phenomenal. The new Aprilia-made V-4s are the ones that are all being recalled.

It's a huge egg on the face of my favorite MC company.

I just heard about that today. Ugly. I heard they had 5 bikes setup for the press day, and all the engines on all the bikes when nuclear in front of the press! Hey, at least the Italians believe in truth in advertising.

Different motor. It's the RSV4, a new four cylinder motor built in-house, that has had all of the problems. The RSV Mille, with the Rotax twin, is a wonderful machine.

Funny, too, in that all of the major bike rags were fawning over the RSV4 as "sportbike of the year" and such. Makes one wonder if they had even tested one and, if so, for how long.

Doubtful. The only mag I trust these days is MCN. And even they have their biases, but at least they're not taking ad dollars in return for positive press.

I rode an Aprilia Falco once. Nice bike. Very nice. Would have bought it, too, if the previous owner hadn't abraded half of the fairing off in a low-side (he forgot to mention that little tidbit in his ad).
