ATT blocking incoming net traffic

I can no longer VPN or RDP into my work or home servers. (1) is ATT DSL and the other is Uverse. All incoming ip traffic seems to be blocked on all ports.

Anyone heard about this yet? or is it just me?

PS - both residential accounts.

I've got dsl through what used to be SouthWestern Bell but is now ATT. I can RDP to my house.

You could always call or get on your local att dsl website/homepage? They may have put up an announcement.

Have you changed any hardware recently?

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me at all. I've heard of ISPs blocking VPN and then requiring you to pay for some sort of special package that opens VPN back up. But I'd think that they'd send out some sort of notification before making that sort of change.

No hardware changes. Running 7 - both 32 and 64 along with Server 2003.

Router is a netgear FVS318 on one end and a Uverse router on the other.

My VPN has been perfect for over a year, worked great last week but is now down with no changes being made. RDP into Uverse worked perfect yesterday and now is down with no changes made on my end.

I have tried opening up various test ports with no joy.

What firewall? I ask because ZoneAlarm has had some problems with Windows over the years.

Can you ping an external IP?

Windows firewalls turned off - no zone alarm.

Cannot ping external ip. That is why it seems ATT is blocking incoming access for some reason.

Yesterday I could ping Uverse - but not today.

Time to have a long talk with "Henry".
Speak slowly and repeat the original problem from an "unlimited minutes" phone.

Personally, I wouldn't drop that company/monopoly a dime.

AT&T blocks server ports on residential DSL. If you want open ports, you have to do with Business Class DSL.

We run our consulting business out of the house and tried Time Warner cable for a year or so, but they became unreliable. Thus we were forced back to AT&T Business Class DSL.

The way I understand it when talking with some really good Level 3 engineers a few years ago, the ports are managed on their local routers. When they start seeing consistent server port useage, they will close them. Otherwise, what is the incentive for people like me that need open ports to buy up to Business Class.

This seems to track pretty well with what happened to Randy.

BTW, my Business Class has been as rock solid as a frational T we had a few years ago.

Setup a port redirect, in other words, if traffic comes in on port 22 (ssh), redirect it to port 3389 on the PC

Or better yet, a random high port.

Or better yet, a different(non-monopoly) company which allows the consumer(payer) to conduct business.
