Finally Got a Job Selling Acura's
Finally after well more than a year of not finding work. I will be starting at the Acura dealer here in town. The dealership will open in the middle of April. They also sells Mercedes, BMW, Honda and Mitsubishi. Acura store has it's own location and is looking really good.
Looking forward to to being back on the productive side again. After 25 year in IT, a new adventure begins. Great product lines to sell and the dealership has a great reputation. Can't wait to get started.... ![]()

A long time friend who has worked at the dealership for 30 years said "If it were Toyota I'd tell you to forget about it" Advice that keeps getting better as more stories keep happening.
It is a relief and am looking forward to the challenge. I can also sell the Honda's as well. The Acura's are great and no Infinity or Lexus dealers in town. Guess Lexus won't be competition for a while ![]() Thanks everybody for the support ![]()

Congrats! Toyota's troubles should help the other import makers, consumers scared by the media but cautious of domestics will migrate to Honda, Acura, Nissan, Infiniti, etc.

Were you actively looking to get out of IT? Congrats on the job and if you still like IT you could probably nail a good job selling IT. IT guys are a dime a dozen right now but and IT guy that can sell is a whole other deal. With the Acura experience under your belt it could really open up some doors.

Congratulations on starting a new career!
Fast Advice: Treat it as a career and not just job you are trying until something better comes along Learn the Hondas and think of yourself as a Honda specialist that works in the Acura building Get to know leasing inside and out, memorize the current Honda/Acura lease offerings Un-program your enthusiast's and technical/engineering perspective of the cars... 85% of customers don't care Remember to have fun, makes friends, and don't be afraid to show personality to your clients Good luck! I'll also add: - If you approach it like a professional, you will be miles ahead of your competition. By that I mean, deal with every client as though you want their business, long term. That involves follow up, courtesy calls, and a genuine intersest in them. Ask and listen, your competition likely isn't doing that, so it really will make an impression. - For every model on the floor, know the cars it's competing against, and know those cars better then their own salespeople. Go out and drive them, and read the reviews. Make sure you know about any deals and rebates THEY offer. And always ask potential buyers which cars they are also looking at. Don't ever criticize the other cars, but do ask them how they feel about XYZ. Ex: "How do you think the rear legroom compares in the infinity?" Trust me, they'll go back and check. If you take it seriously, and genuinely treat people well, you can do really well selling cars.

The "career" is how I am going into it. Every selling job I have had included memorizing/knowing all the products, prices, and specials. I have had several Honda's. I will be using Honda to sell up and Acura to promote Honda sales.
No one that has met me believes me when I tell them that I have been in IT. My kids give me a hard time about seing somebody that I know everywhere we go or starting conversations up with strangers. Have alway had a gift to be able to communicate with anyone. Once while selling stereo equipment I sold a expensive system to a deaf guy. Nobody else would wait on him. The whole thing was communicated by writing on a note pad. Just one example of everybody is a possible client. Kaisen, Thank you for confirming how I have viewed going into this. I told them when I interviewed that I am a car guy and I am not looking to do this because of that. Looking for long term customers and being there for a good long while. There is management possibilities but need to spend time getting established. Kaisen, I will be in touch. Notfarrow, This is great info and made the decision to do this before I even applied for the position. It is great getting this advice and will take it t heart and use it. Dave was not actively looking to get out, but nothing had worked out looking in IT ether. I have both sold and serviced systems to the clients I sold to. I have had a few clients that i have done work for 15 years. Bought my 911 from one f them. Just an opportunity that seemed really right and at dealership with a great reputation. Went to school with one of the owners daughters, so I have known them for a long time. RKT will get you some pricing as soon as I can. The dealership will be opening in the middle of April. Will know well before then. As far as free samples. I'd love too, see what Acura has available from marketing ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
