Best scope mounts for M1A/M14
Has anyone tried the bassett machine scope mount? Here's a clip on mounting.
Opinions?

It's pretty similar to the milspec style system. Which leads me to ask, is there anything wrong with the milspec style system that turns you away from it?
If it's not broke and all... |

It looks ok to me. Sometimes quick release systems can fall prey to the laws of that bastard Murphy. The MILSPEC mounts we used were basically the same thing, but with a knurled knob to tighten them down, as opposed to the QD lever.
I'd just try and find a lot of online commentary on that mount, if possible, and make sure there are no complaints with it from people who've bought them. |

It's not quick release, that's just a little wrench tool...

Let me ask you this, Sniper, would you test one?
In all honesty, at some point in time Snipe, you've fired a weapon that this gentleman handily refined.

I would honestly just use a MILSPEC mount unless the reviews i found were glowing.
So it is. Even less of a reason to choose it over a proven MILSPEC setup. Nowadays when i want to buy a spoon accessory i google it and find as many actual user reviews as possible. A lot of stuff that looks good on paper isn't worth squat in the field, or is not worth the added expense. M-1A's are magnificent weapons. I am envious of you my friend. ![]() Last edited by m21sniper; 03-11-2010 at 10:56 PM.. |

This is the third generation mount from Springfield. Secures in two places. some older rifles may have to swap out the stripper clip slot for the second mounting point.

well (3) no juan has mentioned that even i am in a quandry over for my next build:
1) smith ent 2) sadlaks alum 101st airborne or their titanium im sitting on everydamn UBER GOODIE part for my springfield custom shop/arrington/mcmillian M-14 usmc stocked/stainless hart barrel super duper match. yeah talk about OCD! this time around will be the UBEREST OF THE UBERS for this GOOBER! started acquiring parts last year for this to bring it right in line with whats being issued(why the hell not?) cuz i CAN! everything is sitting in a box except the scope mount that i havent figured out yet. i can get a deal on smith and they are right here in tempe thru my FFL amigo. butt the sadlak 101st airborne alum models price tag sure is nice as well as the UBER KOOLNESS of their Titanium model. im using a 4.5 x 14 w/mil dot illuminated springfield scope on mine so yes its big and heavy,so i would like to take off for iron sight shoots. and place back on w/out loosing zero. looked at basset and not much different from springfields 3rd generation mt which i have now. so YOU TELL ME WHATS BEST! i buy it and i never want to feek with it AGAIN in my life. |

The Springfield one is junk.
I agree 100% with our good buddy ODDJOB UNO, if you are getting one, get the Sadlak mount. You will have to remove the stripper clip, and make sure your M14 is within milspec, but it is an awesome piece. I have hunted big game here in CO with my Springfield M1A, and I have the Sadlak mount with a 50mm 3x8 Nikon Monarch on it. I can still use the iron sites with the Sadlak mount. I also had a very psoitive experience dealing with Sadlak ![]() |
