Not a child but certainly an unusual name... I have an old cajun friend from down the bayou actually named Louis Saint John the Baptist Duval. I had been wondering and asked why some people called him Batis or however Baptist is spelled with a Cajun French accent
|
I lobbied for Conchy McCoconut, but the wife put her foot down.

Now that's a danged fine name! |
What really bugs me is when people misspell their kid's name, for example "Jaymes" instead of "James" It's a real pain in the @ss having to spell your name over the phone every single time.
I know someone who (unknowingly?) gave her daughter the same name as a famous "adult film star." It's going to suck when the kid grows up and can't google her own name without returning a million hits for (by that time) old porn. |

Fedex allows the employees to name the airplanes after their children. Each time an airplane comes into the fleet of 300 planes, a contest is held and a name is chosen at random. The child and the parents are flown to Memphis where they are greeted by Fred Smith, the founder of the company, and they are then escorted to the airplane in question where a ceremony is filmed with the child and the name on the side. The latest is one is one of our new 777's, and the name comes from the one-year old child of a ramp worker in Newark: Noam.
That's not to bad- the parents are from Morocco, and this is a typical name. But we have a few airplanes flying around with really interesting monikers painted on the side! -Two Bears. I'm not kidding, someone who works for Fedex has a child named "Two Bears"! Probably someone in Anchorage. -Shaniqua. I flew that airplane last week down in Brazil. But the coup de grace has to be the A300 that we have flying around. I have no idea about the parents or where they come from, or why the hell they would defile their child with a name like this, but we have an airplane that is named: "Zebra-Delta" I'm not kidding at all! If you do a search on Airliners.net you can probably find the pictures! -Again. As someone with an odd name, please....please! Parents think about how your child is going to be treated when you pick a name. Give them something normal so that they can at least get through school without a bunch of flack. Kids are ridiculous cruel, and an odd name is just an incitement. Mikey! |
I've actually seen a kid with the name ABCDE too. I called the kid over the PA "A. B. C. D. E". Mom actually had the balls to say to me: "It's Ab si dee. Can't you read?"-----No Mam, apparently not?
Also had a young lady with a name of "Sweet Thang". She was a teenager when I meet her. I felt terrible for that kid. We just referred to her as Miss (last name here). Somehow, against all odds, she was the nicest, politest kid you would ever want to meet. Her parents were however crazy! Dad used to twist his hair up on the sides of his head like devil horns and wear a red cape. Mom was some kind of counselor for the school district. The kid changed her name as soon as she was 18. Sometime ago, I found an article titled "Names Can Hurt". It was an excellent piece written by an African American woman about the long term impact of the names that these kids were naming their kids. School kids are ruthless! Hell my name is Paul. And I caught hell until the 6th grade. Life is already enough of a challenge, no sense starting these kids off with a jacked up name that some wise ass in the 4th or 5th grade is going to run with. |
In my home town there was a person called, Eddie Eddie (rumor was a in-bred marriage type of thing).
Also another was a cute little flower power girl by the name of Star. I wonder how she turned out? Recently taught a girl whose name is Ichigo (Japanese for "strawberry"). And a boy whose name is Genki (Japanese for "happy"). Also an interesting name that is really legit in Japan, Yu (pronounced as "You") ... lolo, I have to keep a straight face every time I say, "Hey Yu! How are you?" I do agree on the name thing. Growing up with a "different" or "strange" name can have various out comes. Interesting though is that names seem to run in a cycle like fashion but over a period of generations rather than years. |
One of my friends from Massachusetts, when he used to teach 7th grade english in Pittsfield, has a student named: Amphany. I guess mom couldn't spell.

A friend of ours tried to get us to name our youngest son " Ragnar Quimby". Wife didn't even laugh.
She does now as he has ordered us magazines in that name, so we also get junk mail for Ragnar. |
Photographed a festival yesterday and one subject was named "Aleria" and the other "Mysta."

I had a customer come in today. His first name is Eks Wye he introduced himself as X Y (last name withheld)
When he gave me his card I noticed his name is Eks Wye ******* the third! The guy was late 30 or early 40s so there well may be a 4th generation out there. |
