What silly names have your friends given their babies?

Every so often a thread starts about funny names you've heard of. What about ridiculous what-were-they-thinking names your friends have actually come up with?

My wife's friend named their baby daughter ZaZu. (Yes, two capital Zs) Poor kid.

I kid you not...I know a one year old girl who is named Beatrice Ophelia Magnolia. :(

That's the leaping lemur from Zaboomafoo.

Scout. I had to look up this person's blog to find out if it's a boy or a girl (Scout is a she apparently). For the longest time I didn't know if her facebook posts were about her kid or her dog. Why not call your kid Spot - that's a dog's name too?

edit: from another person I grew up with there's a Kayden and Callan. Had to look up her profile to determine whether they were boys or girls. But at least there was no doubt whether they were human or canine.

Ever read To Kill a Mockingbird?

We were walking in the neighborhood with another couple years ago... about 25 years ago... and strolling our firstborns. Both the wives were expecting and the other dad asked us if we had chosen a name yet. This was fairly early in both pregnancies.

Their last name was Pritchard.

We mentioned a few girl and boy names we were considering... we had asked the doc not to tell us the gender so we had to think of both. I mentioned a boy name that we had considered briefly, but nixed it because it sounded funny with our last name.

The guy replied, "Wow... I don't think we would discard a name just because of that."

I laughed and said, "If y'all have a boy, I bet you wouldn't name him Richard."

He agreed.

I read it, but it was long enough ago so that I had to google the name just now. A dog is still the first thing that comes to mind, but that's probably because I've known 3 or 4 people that gave that name to their dog.

I thought ZaZu was the prophetic monkey in "The Lion King."

Zazu was the bird in the Lion King, Mufasa's (and later Simba's) advisor, voiced by Rowan Atkinson. Trust me, my 3 year old LOVES the Lion King. I could probably transcribe the script from memory. Zazu is my role when we sing "Just Can't Wait to be King" together :)

Wife's nephew named their boy....Blaze.

red-beard 03-13-2010 06:16 AM

Next door neighbor in Massachusetts named one son Eiton (ay-tun) and the other was Ransom.

Eiton is supposed to be a common name from Estonia. Ransom was supposed to be an overly handsome/vain man in Greek History.

I live near Detroit. You DO NOT even want to know what some people around here name their kids... They put more thought into naming their pets than their kids...

It saves their kids all that stress of picking out their stripper name later in life!

Hmm. You might be right. I haven't seen Lion King in about 10 years.

On second thought, the lemur from Zoboomafoo might be named Zabu. Zabu, ZaZu; it's all the same at that point.

The only unusual name (other than tradional ethnic names) I can think of in our circle of friends' kids is Jett. Though I did go to highschool with an Osgood.
