My tundra is gone, got a sentra for daughter

Well, I finally let the tundra go, to a good home. I'm gonna miss that truck.
The way it ripped around like a sports truck is the biggest thing, the ford acts like a sluggish snow plow compared to the tundra but the ford does other things better.

Last night my 16 year old daughter picked out her fist car, a 2008 black nissan sentra with 36000 miles on it.
That car is clean. Prolly a lease that was turned back in.

I tried to talk her out of a black car but her heart was set on it, she has to learn sometime
Got a decent deal but not killer, paid just over $10k.
So everyone is happy now.

my condolences. LOVE my Tundra ('06 DC) and hear you 1,000% on how it drives vs. virtually any other pickemup. Makes my coworkers Chebby 1500 feel like a tractor. And not a nice tractor either.

Damn, you're going to be pissed when your 16 year old wrecks that nearly new car. Congrats on the Tundra sale.

My dad wisely bought me a rabbit for my first car...knowing i'd probably crunch it.

I did.

Yes, there is a chance that could happen.
But she's a smart girl, gets good grades, is well mannered and responsible, does very well in sports and I'm going to have to trust her eventually, might as well be now. She's never given me a reason not to trust her.

We are limiting her use of the car to school and volleyball practice, no joyriding or going to social type stuff in it until she gets older.
I explained to her that it is the only car I will ever buy for her. it has to last until she graduates from college and gets a job so if she crashes it (and it's her fault) or doesn't take care of it she'll be riding the bus.
She knows me well enough to realize I'm not bluffing.

I had her out in the garage a little while ago helping me change the oil in it.
She's not going to be like her mother, she's going to know how to check oil and do basic maintenance.

Ditto with our dtepdtrs...both got cars at 16 (altho not as new as yours), good grades, (played on vball team for that matter) , only cars we'd ever buy, etc. They're now 19 and, knock on wood, neither have ever had an accident. Although one burned up an engine due to a bf's picture covering the temp gauge.

So don't worry...She soumnds like shee'll take car of it...NOT ALL KIDS crash or trash their first car. In fact one of the step twins was able to sell her frst car for about what we paid for it and with her own money she had saved bought an almost new accord a few months back.

Oh man, that really happened? I heard the story and thought it was an urban myth or something.
Bummer. Hope it wasn't too expensive.
I might go through the roof, but you're probably more patient than me

I went thru the roof. Not an urban myth. She called me to tell me her car was making funny noises and some smoke coming from hood, running poorly. I immediatedly asked her the water temp gauge. She said I don't see it". I say little dial on right of tach/speedo. She says "I don't see it." I say "whay do you see?" She sez "Adam's picture" (her bf). I say "MOVE THE %$#^&*%*@@&!! PICTURE." She: "OHHHHH...there it is...its all the way in the red."

I say..."Where are you? Turn it off...I'll pick you up." The rest is history.

It was a BMW 318ti...I was able to find a low mileage wreck with good engine for $750. Made her help me put it in. She paid me for what we spent on it. She's now uber-paranoid about the water temp/oil pressure (she's the one who recently bought the Accord).

How many miles on the Tundra? I've got 96,000 and I'm beginning to wonder how much maintenance and repair$ are down the road.

I love my 02 tundra, 110k miles. Good luck with your daughter and her first car!!! A guy at work has a GPS installed on his daughter's car, under the dash. She doen't know about it.... He goes online and monitors her, where and how fast she's driving!!! Glad they didn't have that when I was a kid!!!

$700 below private party blue book but it needed tires.

It had 41,000 trouble-free miles, no work done or needed that wasn't on the scheduled maintenance.
Except of course if you count the front bumper, right front fender, and an alignment (some A-hole hit it when it was almost new).
Oh, and I changed the shocks at around 10k to try and smooth out the ride a bit, it didn't make much difference.

I figure it would have lasted a long time and would have been a very good truck if I had kept it.
If it rode smoother I probably wouldn't have bought the ford. I spend about 6 hours a week in my truck, I want a comfortable ride. yes I am that old, and no I won't buy a Cadillac

My last tundra (the one before this one) was a 2001 IIRC, great truck except for the brakes. They'd fade on long downhills especially when towing. Never really liked the brakes on it.
And when accelerating hard around tight corners it'd tend to chirp the inside rear tire, I figured that was because of the TRD limited slip diffy. not a big deal.
that was about the only things I didn't like about that truck.
The size was almost perfect, not quite huge but big enough, and still small enough to be nimble and maneuverable.
I put 75k on it and smiled the whole time. Almost.
Toyota put a brand new tranny it in it at 35,000 miles because the overdrive locked up, for free.
Gave me a rental car too, and when I picked up the truck it had a full tank of gas and was completely detailed. I dropped it off dirty and empty.

I'd think about that GPS thing for my daughter's car but like I said, she has never given me a reason not to trust her. She is a really good kid and I'll keep thinking that until she changes my mind.
That doesn't mean she gets to run wild. Can you imagine growing up with a dad like me? That can't be easy

I do write down the miles tho ......

Oh man, a beemer? They'd have to put the cuffs on me (for the first time). I'd have lost it.

Jeff, why not pull the blower, return it to stock, and sell the blower separately?

Yup. You're probably scaring a lot of people off who don't want a supercharger. Yes, there are crazy people out there who don't think a supercharger makes everything better.

Bought my stepdaughter a brand new car back in 04 ($14K) at the dealer I worked at. The day she came and picked it up I sent her to the filling station with a fuel voucher for the first free fill up. As she was leaving the station she pulled into the center (turning) lane as a car was veering into the same lane and smashed up the right fender , wheel , door and bumper. $2500 (my dealer discounted cost) of damage on a car driven less than a mile from where we bought it in less than 10 mins after I gave them the bank draft. I hope you never experience something like this.

So you didn't insure a brand new car for collision?

Turning something like that into an insurance company for a teen driver can often end up costing much more than $2500 in the long run, maybe that's why he paid for it.
