reading all of this with interest. still feel Glock would be a fantastic shtf gun. if you really think you're gonna be killing people i believe it would be a fantastic pistol to carry.

if you're walking around pre-zombie (or pre Great Public Uprising Against Obama/Democrat Congress of 2010) amidst innocent bystanders then i'm liking the case for the P7. sounds neat.

and i get my weekly breakfast sandwhich at a store that sells a goodly amount of beer at 8am so you KNOW my street cred is fo real!

Here are some other excellent HK choices, if you can find them used in the $500 range (not really sure what the used value of these are):

Suppressors not included. ;)

Those guns were/are standard issue for US SPECOPS types, since i think the mid 90s? These are gi-hugic handguns, so if you plan on CCW at some point, probably not the best choice.

Looks like a simple mod for a tinkerer of your magnitude Tim! ;)

With a manual safety kit i would not have a problem with Glocks at all. Sure, the trigger pull is still crap, but beyond that as long as they had a safety, i'd be good with it. :)

I was just playing with a USP40 a guy at my range is selling for 500 with 5 mags. It was massive, but very nice to shoot and wickedly accurate.

HK USP:

The Mk23 variant of the USP was standard issue of the US Navy SEALS and i think Delta force for several years.
Like virtually all US military weapons systems, it has a manual safety. :)

There you go, a REAL WORLD incident of a man who is not dead because his primary firearm was a P7. In this incident, if the Law abiding citizen is carrying a Glock, a Sig, or a revolver....he's dead.

People just don't squeeze the FRONT of the gripframe that firmly as a natural instinct (most pressure is applied to the grip panels in a typical handhold). It takes a deliberate amount of force -26lbs- to activate the single action mechanism of the P7. IOW, you have to know to do it.

The robber in the above story did not know...and now he's dead, and the owner of the P7 is not.

Ok, one data point. I guess that proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt. All hail anecdotal evidence!

Wow, the airsoft people sure know how to throw a lot of crap on a gun.

Whatever man. I did post a quote from gun expert Masaad Ayoob stating that no cop has ever been shot after being disarmed of his p7. That is a blanket statement by one of the foremost gun writers in earth.

Anywhooo....

I was watching that new movie bounty hunter last night, with gerard depardieu (took my island princess for a date), and the dude was freaking swinging his glock all over the entire movie with his finger on the trigger.

I almost had an aneurysm. My GF was laughing and giggling the whole time as i screamed "Get your finger off the trigger!" at the movie screen. ;)

Half decent movie, btw.

There are no data point of anyone being shot after being disarmed of their P7. What i gave was a data point of the GG blowing away the BG after being disarmed of his P7.

I am thinking about getting a basic pistol just for home defense and a little target practice. I would like to keep the price somewhere under $500, used stuff is ok with me. Nothing fancy, easy to care for.

Suggestions?

Go to a Gander Mountain. I just got the circular and they have a lot on sale.

FWIW,
This is a sore peter deal... you just can't beat it.

Austrian Glock 22 .40S&W Police Trade-In Pistols

m21sniper 03-21-2010 03:06 PM

Ruger P-series and S&W 3rd Gen autos are about the same price used. Both are quality firearms. (The Smith is the better of the two IMO, but my cousin had a Ruger P-85 for many years and it did not jam, ever).

dhoward 03-21-2010 03:28 PM

Maybe one of the trade-ins has a "light, short trigger".
I have yet to find one.

m21sniper 03-21-2010 05:32 PM

I am speaking in comparison to a DA or DAO trigger, which is significantly longer and heavier than a glock's. My apologies for the ambiguity.

BTW, the single action pull of the P7 is legendarily smooth. ;)

dhoward 03-21-2010 05:52 PM

I knew better as I was typing the response.

Carry on.

$539 for a Class C (finish but mechanically refurbished) P7 at HKSpecialists.com.
It would look exactly like the one pictured above, lower left.

Can you believe it? Some people have no concept of trigger discipline! :D

We were not within a country mile of a live round when that pic was taken, but yep, you're absolutely right. ;)

PS: I had the safety on. :D

berettafan 03-22-2010 02:17 PM
