That's the true story. The owner was a Polish count or something—living in Italy. Import tax in those days was several times the value of the car—money he didn't have. So he put it in Lago Maggiore—intending to retrieve it when the tax man was off his back—but the war intervened and the car was forgotten in the lake.

Each to his own—but I don't get the beauty of the "patina" at all. To me it's a machine, and machines have a function. This is just a mess. I can't imagine paying big $ for this and then just leaving it at is.

Jesus. Has this guy never heard of the tried and true, *park it in your friend's garage* method of hiding a car? The bottom of a lake. Yeah, that makes sense.
