It took me 2 weeks of driving a V8 Vega when I was 18 to realize that the fact that one car will out accelerate another doesn't make anyone more manly. There is zero skill involved and a fair quantity of "Being too stupid to just drive your own car" with getting sucked into a street acceleration race.

The skill in driving comes in when we are talking about traffic awareness, braking, and cornering.

In otherwords: Control.
Control includes not letting some dork going vroom vroom next to me change the way I am driving my car.

BTW- The Viper thread is funny: The guy being busted and how important it is to the average person in that thread to have out accelerated some other brand of car.

When I saw "75th and 59", I knew exactly where they were. That's where I grew up.

The proliferation of posers in Vipers and 'Vettes drove me away.

That's funny. I know the intersection where that photo was taken....it's a busy strip and cops patrol it almost constantly.....noone in their right mind would street race there.

From thread:

Quote:
This coupled tried me on today in a vette. It only took me 4k in 1st gear to pass em. Afterwards I sat and talked to em..really nice people actually. Corvette guys that I've experienced seem to actually respect the Viper and all the jester is in good fun. Hey at least we all like fast cars.

Moment when the anchor dropped on the OP's hood....

Quote:
CALLING YOU OUT ON THIS ONE LANCERMAN!!! THAT WAS SUNDAY. THAT IS MY WIFE'S CORVETTE! See that the license plate frame says "Vanessa's Corvette." You probalby did not realize we have a Viper too. She hit the gas and you would not even play...and NO, we did not talk afterwards. We saw you take that picture with your camera on Rt.59 and 75th St. You owe the forum an apology for making up this crap.

Only 8 pages so far? That's not viral...

Viral are the ones that spiral out to 60-70 pages.

You know what, this actually happened to me (not the corvette/viper - but same idea).

I was driving the spyder on a group caravan to an event. We were on I-5. I accellerated to 70 and sat in the slow lane. Next thing I know, this fella comes flying up behind me, yards the wheel over to zip into the fast lane, and passes me at probably a good 100 mph. I laughed when he passed, figured he was just feeling his oats. Kept it at 70.

Well apparently he went on line to a forum and talked up a storm about the great race we had and how his superior car bested ours in every way, yada yada yada...

Dude. If both of you are going for it, it's a race! If one of you is going for it, it's like masturbation - certainly entertaining but not really something to brag about.

I agree. When the OP doesn't come back after 14 pages, and the rest of them just sit around and spout off how PWNED he is, and how everyone knows now, then it's kinda not really PWNING nor is it viral. Angela's masturbation concept applies here...they're circle jerking, not PWNING.

In fact, it's annoying that any thread that makes fun of someone doing something stupid is "viral". I was part of one of the first REAL viral threads, the kind that gets written about in newspapers and ends with the person being pwned begging the world to leave him alone. bumper stickers were made with his name on them, the dude can't walk 15 feet without being recognized as a cad. He'll never live a normal life again.

THAT is PWNING.

To take your analogy a bit further:
