Best, Tom |
c'mon. Don't gimme that crap. Apple is just a DIFFERENT balance of features. The Apple 'user experience' doesn't make it ALL superior - just different.
Using an iPad (w/ its' limited I/O) to control a win7 environment is like thinking that a two-channel RC box is a good way to fly a commercial jet. |

F U APPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Daring Fireball: New iPhone Developer Agreement Bans the Use of Adobe's Flash-to-iPhone Compiler Really? WTF? Sorry, but Adobe is going to go APE on Apple now. |
Mac users, ;launch Activity Monitor (Applications/Ultiities/Activity Monitor) and go to 2010 Masters Golf Tournament then watch some Flash video while keeping an eye on your CPU(s) and listening to your Mac's cooling fans. Sorry, but Apple is going to go APE on Adobe now..... fixed it for ya

From the day we debuted the Apple II (4/17/77) I've listened to people trash Apple. "Wrong processor." "Built in a garage." "Won't last out the year."
Apple surpassed Walmart last month to become the third largest US corporation after being named the 'most respected company in America' by Barrons in February. I don't desire an iPad, but I know we've only seen the tip of the iceberg. For instance, the iPhone gets multitasking in its next OS. There may be a point at which the iPad does things beyond what my iPhone does and I'll want one. Or, Jobs will come up with yet another great thing... wouldn't surprise me. I've worked with a lot of smart folks, but Steve is the top of the list. |
That is because apple won't allow hardware acceleration. Period.
|
Btw ... I have the iPhone OS. Going to install tomorrow and report back.
The new app folders are cool. Installed new os on iPod touch. I'll do phone tomorrow. |

Just watched it on my PC. Has little to do with Flash. I think it has to do with the programmer. I am at 100% CPU as well. Technekes - Create Demand ... go there and watch the video in a player that I hand coded. Curious to know if it kicks your fans on. I hit 60% CPU. I expect you to be around 70-75% due to the lack of hardware acceleration. Again, no issues with any of the Macs at work. Here is an HTML5 experiment for ya: HTML5 Canvas and Audio Experiment Let me know how that goes too :(. I hit 100%. |
Just played with an iPad at the Apple Store. Yes, I'm an Apple FanBoy, but wow, that little thing is impressive. Speed is amazing. Everything is instant. The quality of the display is really something & the user interface is a blast. Love pinching and swiping around the interface :) I'm going to get one when the 3GS version comes out. I can see this being a killer little Netflix streaming device on the couch or in bed with high quality 'phones. The apps are going to make this thing happen.

I can cut paste and compose messages on my iPhone, read word and PDF docs, etc. I use a laptop for just about everything else. As long as I have both, the iPad is not for me. But for people who don't have the laptop, it's going to be a good solution. Maybe 3-4 million will be sold this year. There are already 50 million iPhones and 35 million iPod Touches so it seems Apple is slicing the market pretty thin... but again, a killer app could emerge. |
I went and played with the iPad yesterday and actually was underwhelmed (Island, come to man...snap out of it...Island...ISLAND!!!).
It still is attractive due to the possibility of having all my music charts and lyrics on there along with iRealBook. But I found typing to be more cumbersome than the iPhone - you can't really hold it and type. Two hands with thumbs is slow and hard to do. I had to put it down on the table and then you have odd angles and nothing to rest your hands on. I suppose you could get used to it, and of course you can add a keyboard but at that point I'd rather have my laptop. They have done a pretty good job of creating scaled down versions of Keynote (use it often) and Pages. The eBooks are great, but I don't really do that so it isn't a draw for me. The photo viewer is nice and the extra size for viewing web pages is great. The multitouch is responsive and brilliant for some things, less so for others. If you want to consume media, it is cool. If you need to create media, it ain't there yet, and might not ever be. But it isn't meant to be a notebook replacement so time will tell. Historically Apple gets the 3rd rev of a new product damn near perfect, so there is some evolution yet to come in this. The one thing as mentioned above that is compelling is the viewing size. When I went back to my iPhone and pulled up an email I could barely read it. |

Actually, I played with one the other day. As always, the packaging o' electronics is top notch materials and finish. But, as I expected, they threw ergonomics out the window . . sacrificed to the gods of product family styling. --I'm guessing this was Jobs insisting on design balance, rather than any ID guys (Industrial Designers) input. that is; the in hand balance is AWFUL, and yet it has no nice 'desk mode.' And, the typing is absolutely awful. ...even when it is propped nicely in the display holder. I do wonder how tablet sales would be if the windows based tablets did one fifth of the advertising that Apple has already for the iPad. --last year Win-tablets sold under 14million |
I played with the Ipad yesterday. Ironically, it was the same day I recieved my income tax return. Thankfully, I didn't realize this until AFTER I left the mall.
A couple of points: 1. It's nearly impossible to hold on your lap (sitting on the couch) and type on it like a normal computer. 2. Laying flat on a desk is annoying to the wrists. If it's not comfy to type on I won't use it. 3. It's much easier to type on (fat fingers) then the Iphone/touch. 4. The ram prices are scary. Seriously Apple? 5. If they sold the display holder ( just cheap acyrillic plastic) I'd buy it. The other holder's are poor replacements. All in all, I liked it. I have a need for it, but I will not be buying one. At the end a sub $400 labtop kicks its butt anyday. Carry on.SmileWavy |
pre-decided ?
Seems to me that by and large, people who want to hate it, hate it, people who want to love it, love it !
All I know is that it's the PERFECT couch potato device for ME. Battery life is great, I've been using it as the downstairs computer for a couple of weeks now. It does all *I* need, Email, internet, some cool games (try plants vs zombies), plays my kids cartoons so that I can watch TV now and then (yeah!!!), and streams Netflix to my sofa or the outside patio... Oh yeah, bought an E-book (the latest Dresden files, excellent) and it turns out I like reading on that too, which I REALLY didn't think I would... So like it for what it is, hate it for what it's not... There is no denying a netbook could do more, there is also no denying that what this device does, it does better/easier/more elegantly than a notebook. My parents could use this as the only computer they need... For $500, yes, it's worth it to me, and I'm not particularly a fanboy... If you are gonna complain about something, the Wifi sucks, gets dropped all the time (apple says it's on mixed mode b/g networks, that's BS), that needs to be fixed ! I do hate the iphone now. It feels minuscule and useless... Not renewing that when I can use the tablet... |
