New project, say hello to my little friend.
Built from pieces laying around the garage.
308 Remington XP 100 action tactical knob FJ Shook stainless barrel (cryo treated) I didn't know they were using cryo back then. Chet Brown 40 X stock with custom inlet made in the 80s. It appears to be carbon fiber over a foam core with full length aluminum bedding. Timney 4oz Rem 600/660 trigger 24 X Redfield scope from the 80s Flash suppresser custom fit from a box of rusty junk. Home made adjustable butt plate from scraps around the shop ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Henry Schmidt; 04-06-2010 at 01:56 PM.. |

Very nice sounding build.
Three quick questions? 1) Why make a rifle out of an XP100? 2) What is that suppressor from? 3) How far out will that thing reach? ![]() ![]() Last edited by Turbo_pro; 04-07-2010 at 06:51 AM.. |

Thank you
To respond to your questions: 1) The XP is a very sturdy action with a solid action floor (strange term) making it very suitable for long range repeatability. Plus I didn't have all the parts to make it back into a pistol. 2) No clue what the suppresser came off of. It was just in a barrel of old parts. maybe sniper or another gun aficionado will know. 3) Who knows? hoping for a 1" @ 220 meters. Last edited by Henry Schmidt; 04-07-2010 at 02:50 PM.. |

That suppressor looks like something on one of my room mates spoons... But that narrows it down not a whole lot... He's got way too many spoons...

No problem...I switch back and forth between MSNBC AND FOX to see what pablum is being fed to both extremes ![]() Back to the original thread...that stock must have been one pricey item in its day.

My thoughts on the stock are the same. I haven't reloaded anything in 30+ years. That's why it all has to go. |

It looks like a mini-14 aftermarket flash suppressor.

Was anyone making a mini-14 aftermarket flash suppresser back in the 80s ? Remember this project was build using only items from my garage (parts on hand) and nothing was purchased after 1985.
I defer to your expertise in the "tactical spoon" realm but I was thinking it was military surplus. ![]() |

Yes, that model flash suppressor has been around since at least 1987, when i bought one for my first mini 14. If i could see the top side of the suppressor i could tell you for sure.
![]() ![]() Here's one that's quite similar. PS: Nice spoon! Last edited by m21sniper; 04-08-2010 at 08:27 AM.. |
