Tiger Woods latest NIKE ad...

Not meaning to beat the Woods scandal to death. The voice over is his (deceased) father. This is kinda creepy.

That's supposed to make me run out and buy a pair of their shoes? That was just bizarre.

No its not to make you buy shoes I think its a (lame) attempt to re position one of their biggest 'assets' as some one who has / is learning form his mistakes ... etc, and then put the brand above TW's infidelity whilst not being to judgmental , just in case he wins the current golf tournament
Secondary subtext : what could the consumer learn from the mistake of not using Nike golf equipt ?

The parodies are funnier, first one is best, to me, how do you make the video show up in the post?

YouTube - Ape and Tiger
YouTube - Tiger Woods Nike Commercial Parody

YouTube - Tiger Woods New Ad Remix (Controversial Remix)

LOL...just spewed coffee, Tobra. Those were hilarious.

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the ad agency pitching this to Woods.

Proves that he still has game... Look at former President Clinton, he was far worse, impacked more people, yet many here still defend his actions. To be fair, his wife is ugly, but so were the ones he nailed...

I find the shoe wars and celebrity endorsements that pay out $10s of millions so that poor people can be convinced to pay $150 for shoes that cost $5 to make to be one of the most utterly distasteful phenomenon's of modern American pop culture.

I think it's pretty good.

I had heard about it, and I was wondering how they would handle it. The fact that the dad himself was a well known wife cheater, and because of it lived separately from the mom, doesn't exactly put him in a position of being an example for his son. So it makes it a difficult line to walk. But "have you learned anything" is fairly brilliant, because it works both ways - Did Tiger learn from his own actions, and as a rhetorical question - "why didn't you learn from the stupid things I did?"

That being said, of course it is an attempt to reposition their biggest asset. It's a difficult situation for Nike.

I just wonder if the time for the apologies, etc. has passed. IMO they are dwelling on it too much. He's made his apologies, they are what they are, the past is the past and nothing can be done about the past. Move on. I would have considered an upbeat, exciting, "Tiger is Back to Golf!" ad, showing his greatest shots over the years, etc.

From what I have read about his Dad, he wasn't the end all of living a life and handing out advice.

Phil Knight is no dummy. Neither are the folks at Weiden & Kennedy, Portland's biggest ad agency. Of course it's designed as damage control...

Kind of sick if you ask me...but the dead have been used to sell before...

Just had to include this parody thanks to Tobra in case you didn't click on his link. Too funny...but probably not far from the truth if his mother is anything like I suspect

Absolutely. Witness this thread...

No one is supposed to like the ad; just notice and talk about it to others.

Viral.

If you lived near the University of Oregon, you'd like Nike even "more less".

My father passed away a couple of years ago. I would never do anything like this commercial.
