Any Cigar Lovers?

I can't call myself a cigar expert but I do love a good cigar as often as I have time.

I just got an order in from Thompson and then also found Cigars International.

I got 50! Romeo y Julietas for $35! (5 - 10pack tins of the smaller gauge cigars). I do love the smaller cigars for when you only have time for a 20 minute smoke accompanied by an ice cold lager.

So what cigars are you guys into?

Cubans are overrated IMO. Dominicans long ago surpassed them in quality and flavor.

Ashton for me. Arturo Fuente when I can't afford those.

(Yes, I realize they are the same company.)

I just got my first Cohiba but it doesn't have that nice yellow wrapper. It came in a combo pack from Thompson Cigars and I am excited to hear what all this Cohiba talk is. No matter who you speak with a Cohiba is their number 1 pick so I hope its got the smoothness I have been promised.

Cohiba is what I like, pricey but real good with a double 10 year old Demerara rum. Have a couple a week and all this talk about it has started the craving, its gotta be after 5 pm somewhere.

I used to buy boxes from Cigars International (great deals) but since getting married I cut out the expensive hobby (habit?)

However there is a really nice cigar shop near me and I find myself indulging once or twice a month... usually with a good glass of red wine.

I have smoked a LOT of cigars and settled on Romeo y Julietas... Arturo Fuente is good (they should be for the price) but inconsistent... pisses me off to spend $10 on a cigar and have it draw poorly or burn uneven. I also like the Rocky Patel (no cigar snob here, they taste good - I smoke them!) and of course the Cohiba's and Padron are always nice, Hoya De Monterey will do in a pinch.

VSOP TORO NATURAL

Now unless I am mistaken, I found these cigars to use exactly the same materials as Cuban Cohibas? Cheap to boot. Sound right or am I way off base?

Honestly don't know... but the old adage "if something sound too good to be true" may apply.

A lot of cigars claim to use "the same" tobacco as premium brands... but in my experience they don't taste the same.

Cigars are like women... you have to try a bunch of bad ones to appreciate a really good one.

YMMV

Cubanos or Dominican COHIBA? Both are over rated and I don't particularly like them.

I have smoked cigars for about 30 years..I have tried just about everyone of them over time.

Arturo Fuentes...basically was introduced into the American market back in 1989. It was a good low price point cigar...I preferred the Romeo & Julietta's though at that price point.

The best cigar ever....

Partagas 150 A's......Dominican, 20 year old Cameroon wrapper that they found in their warehouse in Spain...limited production to 1M sticks...for the 150Th anno of Partagas in 1996....JUST BETTER THAN ANYTHING ELSE...these cigars sold like hotcakes when they came out and the last price I saw on one of these was $40.00

Cigars that TABBY likes today

1. R&J Cuban Tubo Churchill

2. Partagas BLACK LABEL Pymidas...this is as close as one can come to a Cubanos Partagas Presidente while still being a Dominican...for the dilettante cigar smokers this one will knock you on your azz...suddenly you will feel light headed and dizzy...

3. R&J Dominican Tubo Churchill

4. R&J Reserve #7...Churchill

5. Excalibur by HOYO DE GENER...#1 Maduro....another full BODIED smoke...

6. Private Stock #1..Churchill...Davidoff seconds...

I like my Cigars to be BLACK and the bigger they are the better!

Tabs is by far the pro here when it comes to cigars.

Regarding the above quote, I would postulate that tobacco is to cigars is what grapes are to wine. Vineyards next to each other can grow very different tasting grapes... Grapes from the same vineyard in the hands of different winemakers can produce very different wine.

Not a very good analogy but the point being what do they mean when they say "exactly the same material"?

I sell cigars for a living, don't really have a favorite but anything form Pepin Garcia is always good. If I had to pick only 1 cigar to smoke it would be a Padron 64 Anniversary.

Arturo Fuentes & Macanudos I not to sophisticated. Must draw the line at $5.00 per cigar.
