Done! Walking to the post office..

Tishabet 04-14-2010 06:54 AM

Finished last night... I owe the feds close to 4k. Dang.

vonsmog 04-14-2010 07:31 AM

What are these things called taxes you guys are talking about??? You guys really file???

OK I wish I could not write a check to Uncle Sam and NYS every year. Last year I had to pay close to $60k due to capital gains on the sale of my business property. So this year it feels better writing those much lower figures on the checks!!!

haven't even started, still waiting for last years return and its big money, you guys think IRS is bad - Revenue Canada has you beat by a mile for doing a crappy job. Its a good thing the people work for the gov't otherwise they'd all be fired

Mailed it this morning before work, owed $25 past my return because I am a full time student.

Never been late or filed an extension before this year. But this year my accountant was being particularly slack-assed so I filed an extension. I'm not going to sweat the heat just because my accountant sucks.

I'm glad to see that his business is doing so well that he does not need me.
I already have a new accountant lined up going forward.

What are taxes?

Superman 04-14-2010 01:54 PM

I'm going to sit down tonight and get mine done early.

campbellcj 04-14-2010 09:14 PM

Done. Ouch, that hurt. Almost makes me question the decision to quit drinking.

When they put someone in charge that isn't either grossly incompetent or a blatant crook, I'll *consider* being less creative. As is, audit away, most of my liquid assets are easily shuffled away into obscurity.

svandamme 04-15-2010 03:50 AM

just filed mine online, which means at this point i gave the state an interest free loan on the money they owe me... till they pay it back... probably won't see the refunds till march next year...

Can you imagine doing the taxes for GE, ExxonMobil and others? For U.S. income taxes owed, they just have to write in $0.

Finished mine last night and transmitted. I hate this time of year. Not only because of all the money that I spend on taxes - but also knowing that the govt has spent that already - and the future earnings my kids will have.

Rufblackbird 04-15-2010 04:24 PM

for the first time in years I did not file...because there is nothing to file :(

jyl 04-15-2010 10:14 PM

Extension, baby. I haven't filed on April 15 for at least the last five years. I never owe, always overpay by a few grand.

So why extend an interest-free loan to the gov't. for longer than you have to?

jyl 04-15-2010 10:30 PM

$3000 x 5% per year x couple months = $30. Worth it to do my taxes at my leisure.

When you're lobbyists own Washington, taxes are optional. Does it really matter that many U.S. Corporations pay no income tax to the U.S. but do pay a lot of income tax to foreign countries? Is that really a concern?
