CCW permits easier to obtain in my neck of the woods
Stanislaus County sheriff signs pledge to make gun permits easier - Crime & Courts - Modbee.com
"A farmer said he often irrigates fields in the early morning. The sheriff brought down the house when he responded, "Straight up; I give all ag (people) a gun permit because I know you guys are carrying a gun anyway.""

I wonder if he does permits for non-CA residents.

He was TIGHT with permits until now so I doubt he will go out of his way to help non-locals. It might have something to do with the election in June. He has always been pro-gun on all levels except CCW.

I'd be happy to write a check for $500 to his reelection campaign.

The permit would only be valid in Stanislaus Co, almost certainly only for residents of that county.

I'm pretty sure CA CCW's are valid statewide. Maybe this sheriff has his own get of jail free cards too, though.

Nope. If you get a permit issued by the sherriff, it is good statewide.

Absolutely true...but be careful in gun unfriendly places like Sac, SF, etc. They will take your gun and it's a bi....itch to get it back. I just took a course last night, here in Grass Valley, for the Utah CCW which gives me 27 states. Already have Ca.

I love Rick Lee as well but he's hoping to buy himself a ccw here, not opening his wallet just because he thinks what the guy is doing is cool.

I wouldn't EVEN think of perpetrating a fraud like this looks to be. You have to prove you have been a resident of a county for at least six months...at least that's the way it is in Nevada and Yuba Co's. Faking that could be done, not easy, and it could get you in a lot of trouble.

Not at all. I wouldn't fake anything. CA is not a shall-issue state, which means it's all up to the local sheriff. He can probably issue to anyone he wants, as long as they meet the minimum requirements, which usually mean legally able to own a gun. I'm pretty sure they issue to non-CA residents. I know a guy in AZ who has a CA CCW. Not sure about his residency, but I believe he's an AZ resident. I have non-resident permits from several other states.

Good, glad you are gonna be up and up on this...for your sake. I dunno if a Sheriff can issue to non county residents...maybe so. I just took the Utah course last night which gives me 27 more states. Ca. does not recognize it, nor does Oregon. I already have Ca. If you can get one legally, then go for it. I guess I misunderstood your plan. Mea Culpa

How the hell did you get CA? I have UT too, but got it only because NV takes it and doesn't take AZ. A few mos. later NV stopped taking UT permits. I go there a lot, so I need to just do the course there and get a NV non-resident permit. Though I think car carry is legal there with no permit and I always do that anyway. Sure wish I could get CA. I go there more often than anywhere else. Sometimes I carry anyway, but would like to make it legal.

Ca is county by county at the discretion of the Sheriff or Police Chief. You'd never get one in Sac or any of the Bay Area counties. Likely LA is pretty much the same. The more rural counties are much easier but they still ask you to 'justify' your need in most counties.. I have to renew every two years and re-state the reason but it seems to be just rubber stamped. I live in Nevada County of Ca....not in the State of Nevada. That's about an hour north of Sac in the foothills. A huge majority of permits issued here are to guys over 60 for whatever reason. I was also disappointed to hear that Nevada (State of) stopped honoring Utah...word was it's because they don't require you to shoot. We did last night anyway and incl. the shooting cert. in the application packet. Dunno if that will ever make a difference.

No, UT's not requiring range qual is not the reason. AZ does require range qual and NV still doesn't accept our CCW's. NV wants the tourist dollars, so they make you do your training inside NV.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what my buddy tells me if you get FL ccw you get 27 states or something like that. Other states don't recognize Ca and likewise with the exception of FL. He has a Ca ccw (butte county) and is doing the FL 8hr course from Ca, once completed he will have CA, FL and 27 states... This will be my path as well.

Be careful relying on a FL or UT permit for other states. Some states that honor FL permits only do so if you're a FL resident. They don't like all these non-resident permits floating around. I have enough of them that I can convince any cop I've been through all the hoops in plenty of states and am a law-abiding citizen. But know before you go.

Rick: Your call on Nev. makes some sense, I guess, but how much money is that, really. I dunno, it was just the supposition of the guy teaching our course. I think Fl only recognized Utah if you are a Utah resident. Neither Fl or Co. recognize Utah if you are from some other state.
I drive to Canada every year to fish but since you can't take a hand gun into Canada the Utah permit will do me no good on this trip. Gotta leave it at home.
