Got Ripped off this weekend

Had the catalytic converter stolen from my daily driver(toyota tacoma) over the weekend while parked in our local mass transit system(BART). Apparently tacomas are an easy mark due to the location of the unit according to what I have read on the web. The extra kick in the gut a new unit will cost a grand +. Also Looking into a anti-theft device called a Catclamp(catclamp.com) and/or fabricating some addition measures to stop this from happening again. It's darn shame, I use the bart system maybe twice a year if that.

A co-worker of mine had his cat stolen off his toyota pick-up a while ago sitting in a hospital parking lot. Trucks and SUVs are easy marks.

Tack the nuts on the bolts with a MIG welder. Simple. Some areshole tried to steal the winch from my 4-Runner a few years ago. I had to tack the bolts to my winch bumper to prevent this in the futire. On another Toytoa 4X4 i once had, somebody stole the front drive shaft while it was parked at the World's Largest Shopping Mall (st the time).

Won't help. They cut the cat off with a cordless sawzall. It's a huge problem on Tacomas and 4-runners because of the unobstructed location and the sufficient ground clearance that makes the job a breeze. The 4-runner that I bought last year had the cat stolen previously.

1/4" skid plate? Not familiar with the location.

you should be able to get a universal hi flow cat for about $200.

That is what I was thinking. Make it take them longer to cut off and they may look elsewhere.

I was thinking generic cat, too. Don't know what they run, but they're a lot cheaper than OEMs. Or maybe claim it on your comprehensive policy, if you have one. Shouldn't affect your rates.

If that happened to me, I'd just weld in a new section of pipe.

But then again, I don't live in Kalifornistan. And that wouldn't happen here.

A guy across the street had his stolen from his Toyota truck also. Toyota's are easy marks because they are up higher and I guess they are easy to get to or unbolt or something.

The Toyota dealer was broken into one night and around 38 were stolen off of brand new trucks. Ouch. On the news they said it was about $100,000.00 theft. They are figuring about $2,500.00 per Toyota to replace.

BS

I'm sure there are plenty of meth-heads running around down there to commit those types of crimes.

Actually, it's the gang-bangers from Chicago that we have problems with. They just shoot each other.

You can make a claim on your your comprehensive insurance. Depending on what your deductible is it may be cheaper. My friend just had his stolen off of his Toyota as well.

Just curious, did they unbolt it or cut it off?
