You could get one of these instead of a rifle:

30 round capacity, 100+ meter range, defeats body armor, compact, weighs 1.5lbs loaded, accessory rail, 2100+fps, etc. Something to think about.....

You should see the hornet's nest i stirred up on another forum by praising the 5.7.

Doctor Gary Roberts of IWBA imfamy himself has made it his personal goal to counter my points (with insults, not with links or data, lol). He didn't even post at the forum in question, he came there specifically to counter me.

He was talking about some fed agency that dropped their FN P-90s because "they're really, really icky"(ok, paraphrase, but not all that far from his actual quote).

So i asked him, "What did they pick them for to begin with, if they suck so bad?"
Answering my own question, i offered, "They must have read my posts about the 5.7"

LOL

I wonder if he thinks Major Hasan would have done as much damage with a 9mm, 40S&W, or 45ACP? NO F-N WAY

Where does a guy from the International Waterfowl Breeder's Association get off commenting about ammunition anyway!

He said "thank god the shooter at Hood did not have an effective weapon or it would have been much worse."

A nonsensical comment, but what're you gonna do?

As a system, even if the terminal performance was mediocre(it was not), the Five Seven is still almost perfect for that sort of terrorist attack because of it's extremely high capacity and very low recoil, which would allow for excellent rapid fire multiple target engagement capability while minimizing windows of vulnerability while the shooter was executing magazine changes.

The guy has been around for a while on the net, he is a (Dr. Marvin) Fackler disciple, and has a tendency to try and shout down opposing viewpoints.

The whole stopping power debate is like the threads in PARF where the atheists and believers mean spiritedly insult each other for several pages and yet never come to any agreement on anything. There are no clear cut "right or wrong" answers or facts on what works best, just a lot of opinionated doctors and ex cops shooting mental bullets at each other.

I think both sides are right. And wrong. I also think there is a lot of unknowns, and that at this time "terminal ballistics" is still as much black magic as it is science.

Sounds like he keeps his blinders on to new technology and just discounts it right away.

You can legally own a handgun, just not buy one from an FFL.

I gave my 11yo godson his (now deceased) father's Savage Model 1905 .32 auto for his birthday. His mom keeps it locked up unless i'm taking the kid to the range.

Very nice. My favorite handgun for plinking is my FN M1910 in .32 ACP as well. I've been thinking of getting a Savage 1905 for some time, thanks for the reminder!

Not to hijack sidney's thread any further, but it is a ROCK SOLID design. The 1905 is the first double column detachable magazine automatic ever made.

It's never jammed on me, and even feeds modern hollowpoints. Quite a remarkable design, and even 83 years later (the one he has was made in 1927 IIRC?), the finish really shines. My only complaint with it is the trigger, which sucks. (A good trigger job would no doubt greatly improve things, but that's up to the boy to buy now. )
