Value of a 54 356?
So I got the 911 out from winter storage yesterday.
Today I'm getting in the car to shake out the cobwebs and a old guy comes riding up on a bike and says "nice car. I bought a 356 in 54. Payed $4600 for it. Drove it every summer for 10 years and sold it after it sat for another 10 years in the garage for $400. I told him it's too bad he still didn't have that car, it would be worth a bit now. So what's a 54 356 cab worth?

Pre-A cab? Depends on exact model and condition, this one would be on the high end:

No idea for the US but in Aus that car would be worth about $300,000 or more.
That's assuming a lot about the car.... Like original RHD not converted from LHD. Excellent condition etc. It also helps if the car has history and can be traced back to the original owner. Just a few years ago I was looking at a 56 coupe in excellent condition. Not perfect but a good honest car. It was un-restored except for a re paint. It was originally delivered to a customer in Singapore (RHD) and had some interesting history. It was shipped to Australia in the early 80s and had full history from that point on. It even had the original tool roll and all the tools were there. Unused and dirty. Brick red in colour with black interior. No rust that I could see! He wanted $75,000 and that seemed reasonable at the time. I'm guessing it would be worth over $100,000 now. ![]() It really comes down to the car itself. Condition and history are everything with these cars. So called good cars have gone through two or three restorations... Buyer be ware.

That's kind of like asking why you should buy an original Matisse when Wal-Mart's selling framed art for $40.

You don't have to go half a mil, that guy sold his for $400. Even without the warranty and comfort, it's probably worth it. At least it wouldn't say Ford on it.
